Does anyone have experience using light guns on PC in 2019? Probably with MAME I'm guessing. Any recommendations on guns or emulators? How does it compare to arcade?

>> No.5400069

Use a USB light gun and upscale the resolution of the game. More accurate and detailed aiming than original hardware.

Not favorably. There are no proper lightguns that allow you to reliably aim down the sights. It's all glorified Wii style IR shit. The closest I've gotten to an authentic experience is using a CRT and someone's GunCon 2 driver from the ArcadeControls forum. It did work, but it was laggy, monitor calibration was off and needed manual tweaking, and would lose track of where I was aiming til I cranked the gamma to the point of black being grey. I have faint hope that the Sinden gun in development will be a little better.

Are there any light guns that work with multiple systems (like Saturn and Dreamcast)?

and before you (You) me on your calibration bullshit, don't just take my word for it on how you need to keep both your head and body in place making the "sight aiming" feature a half working gimmick:

http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?31872-Light-gun-hell
>The Aimtrak works with MAME on any kind of TV or PC monitor, basically mapping itself as a mouse cursor. You can still turn the actual cursor off & fine tune it to very close line of sight aiming. Better than a Wii remote but it's still not real line of sight aiming so you must always be sitting/standing in the same position."

>As for calibration, I got it close, but frankly each time I play I am a few inches to the left or right or even closer or further, and the calibration is too far off to use sights.

>>5400009
For now, just buy the consoles, the guns for them, modify them to play backups (or just buy the few games that use them outright, only a few are prohibitively expensive), and use a CRT. Sadly, you'll miss out on some arcade exclusives like Carnevil, but it's just the way it is until something better comes along. If you're okay with Wii style aiming, that's your prerogative, and there are working options for it. Just seems like you may as well use a mouse at that point.

yes, I know for a fact there are several light guns which work on both saturn and ps1. I forget the name, but mine looked like a real gun and was called something like "predator"

Are there any games that you can play with 2 light guns? (VS or Co-op)

>> No.5402108

>>5402086
I'm wondering this as well. For those light guns that require you to passthrough the video input of the tv, you can't use more than 1 gun at a time right? Or does the 2nd player just not require the video passthrough?

>> No.5402116

Only reason I keep my crt plugged in is for kguht gun games. Apparently if you mod your Xbox you can play Virtual Cop 3, wanna look into that.

That's just not true, I own an Aimtrak. You don't have to stay completely still, but do you really move around the room that much playing video games anyways?

I hear some fellas are working on some new ways to do light guns that should be interesting.
One guy is modding this games themselves to work on LCD TVs by modifying the code:
http://neslcdmod.com/
(I think this could possibly be applied to newer games too or even an emulator/retroarch feature)
Another guy is going to launch a kickstarter for a new gun soon:

I'm not the Virtua Cop poster (personally only played them in arcades), but I can confirm through longtime ownership that Lethal Enforcers came with a lightgun and supported a second through a port in the first. The Sega CD version is probably the best, but I played on SNES.

Yup. I personally don't have two light guns but they are supported. I would recommend it as well, Virtua Cop is some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a while

I've done it, it's basically worthless because the only lightgun you can get working with it is the crappy EMS topgun, and even then you can't activate slo-mo.

I'm waiting for Xbox emulation to actually play VC3 at this point, because I have a proper VGA CRT lightgun setup that's a million times better than shit like Aimtrak.

>>5402917
You absolutely have to stay completely still. Which means that if you actually use the sights, your angle completely changes and your gun loses calibration in 2 seconds. It's an absolutely garbage product, this thing >>5402943 looks a bit more promising but I don't know enough about image processing these days to know if it's even feasible to get the right level of accuracy AND minimal latency required for pixel perfect aiming with a system like that. I know it's possible with a flashing IR ring found in the arcades since HotD2, but those are much, much simpler in terms of image processing, and I'd have to actually try this gun out because every single person who reviews LCD lightguns is an absolute clown who has never owned a CRT.

Dont bother trying to find a pc compatible lightgun,

right now the best option is a playstation2 with a Gcon1 , Gcon 2 and some third party compatible with both psx and ps2 for the ocasional visits, just add a mcboot, a hard drive and a crt of 25 inches or more if you want to play 2 players without issues and you are covered only thing i miss with this is that i miss the house of the dead

Ps2 with 120GB hdd + free mcboot + 2 dual shocks + Gcon1 + Gcon2 + Blaze gun with recoil for ps1 and 2 + 29" tv crt = 125€

Forget about wiimotes and shit, is worthless and a joke in comparison

>Dont bother trying to find a pc compatible lightgun,
If you've got a VGA CRT, one pops up on eBay every year or so. The only problem is that of the 2 models I've tried so far, both feel like utter shit in the hand compared to something like a gun-con. I tried modding the internals to fit into a guncon 1, but I couldn't get the alignment of the diode dead on centre, so if I move closer to the CRT my accuracy starts to drift, which is a shame because I like playing quite close. If I had enough room or a big enough PC CRT to stand a few feet away, this wouldn't really be an issue.

A PS2 is a decent option, but the VC ports are shoddy at best and you're missing out on HotD, which can only reasonably be played via emulation. I'd also consider just sticking with a guncon 1, unless you really want to play stuff like dead aim. You can even pretty easily swap in a microswitch trigger, although it's not a significant upgrade.
