Reminder that gameboy did Snapchat filters first, but nobody talks about that do they. . .

Anyways, let's talk about shitty peripherals.

This was the coolest shit that went to waste. If they come how found a way to make it for Gamecube instead it could have meant unique Masterswords in Twilight Princess or special furniture or clothing in AC.

Yep, classic Nintendo move, making something cool and completely wasting it. At least I got some fun out of it as a kid with my Pokemon cards.

This thread is about any failed peripheral.

Example, everyone gives shit to the Virtual Boy, but nobody acknowledges the flying spaghetti monster the controller was.

It was a fine controller for it's gen, felt good to hold too. It's dual d-pads showed Nintendo's forward thinking when it came to playing 3D games which showed up again with the 64's controller having an analog stick while the PS1 and Saturn both launched with single d-pad controllers only.

>>5398351
Those girthy handle things should have been turned outwards, the d-pads should have been joysticks (or at least one of them) and the buttons should have been lower and a little under the sticks. Unless you're shoulders are a foot away from eachother and your elbows don't bend outswords, the thing looks like a nightmare to use.

>> No.5398547

Gonna be honest, I didn't own anything relevant to Amiibos so I don't know much about them. The E-Reader could scan data off of cards to play NES games, interesting Pokemon minigames, sometimes additional content for games.

I didn't know people still cared about those things. I went with a dude to a 6am release of one of them back when the second set came out, we were at the front of the line in front of everyone, and I just walked past to the new ones and got a DK one for the fuck of it.

>Those girthy handle things should have been turned outwards
They're designed to keep you from moving too freely with the controller since you can't see it or anything around you while using the Virtual Boy. In terms of comfort it's pretty much on par with the Dreamcast's controller, all you need are functioning wrists to hold it properly. Also some people get the wrong ideas thanks to AVGN but it's intended to be played on a surface like a table or a counter, once you get it in place then everything makes sense.
>joysticks
That wouldn't have benefitted any of the games except for Red Alarm and maybe a tweaked Teleroboxer, and losing the right d-pad is essentially like removing 4 potential buttons. Besides, woulda-coulda-shoulda doesn't mean much when most 5th gen consoles with full 3D and even fewer design restrictions did even less for 3D controls.
>buttons should have been lower and under the sticks
Maybe if more games with full 3D gameplay were expected, but as-is I think it's a good compromise for the available surface space.
>looks like
And there's the key issue with discussion on /vr/, most people just want to judge things from pictures and videos instead of actual experience. Give playing the thing a shot if you ever get the chance (for free I mean, I can't recommend buying it at current market prices). It's all weird but it works and unless you get headaches from stereoscopic 3D (a minority in the population) you'll do just fine with it. The red on black does fuck up your color perception for a short bit though.

IIRC, to use the added content you needed a second GBA and a link cable. I remember playing some of the SMB 3 extra levels that way. It took longer to set it all up than to play the game.

I used a bunch of generic plug'n'play dreamcast controllers that played old Amiga style games and that felt good, but the joystick and buttons were at the right spots, this just doesn't look ergonomic the way my thumbs would be maneuvering.

Get a load of this story. When I was younger I traded the first Gungrave and Jet Set Radio Future to a used games store to get one of these. That's one of the worst things I can think of that I did in regard to vidya. I mean that's absurdly bad. I was probably about 13-15, can't remember.

Have you ever played it? That controller is comfortable as hell.

Also, the gameboy camera wasn't shitty? In fact, it was a huge freakin deal when it came out.
