I plan to restart BG2 yet again, other than the famous mods (fixpack, tweaks, unfinished business) what are some good, cool mods to have?

yeah. everyone always heaps praise on BG2 but it never felt as much of an adventure/had a sense of exploration as in BG1. plus you could never walk across an area and do a quest without being interrupted to do another quest in the meantime. the boatload of content was cool but it felt too busy or something.

You could try a companion mod if you've tried all the Bioware ones. Many are good, most are mary sue self-insert fuckshits.

If you plan to go into ToB, get Ascension.

Assassinations is sweet for evil characters.

Try going to gibberlings3's website, or Spellhold studios', and have a look around. I like to browse and see what catches my interest.

There's mods that combine the two games, but in vanilla BG2 there's a "canon" party from BG1 they brought over. So what happens when you combine the games and have different companions at the point of the game where BG2 starts?

Once you beat the first game, your main dude is automatically taken to the next game, with only his stats and pantaloons (if you had them).

Playing solo isn't really difficult since you level up so fast you're basically breaking the game at some point. Try to play with the weakest party you can imagine.

I could never play solo. The party interaction just adds too much to the game for me.

In fact, I'll post a Big World Project file that lets you tweak the settings during selection which is awesome. Used it recently myself.

Also, for GOD'S sake disable dark side style kobold upgrade unless you want the mines to be the laggiest thing ever.

Second. The script makes kobold summon more kobolds. Normally the game engine would handle this no problem, but continuous spawning makes the game run at 4 frames every few seconds.

I'd second Sword Coast Stratagems I and II. Most of SCS is AI tweaks, so the entire experience is still pretty faithful to the game. The entire thing is worth it just for the dispel magic fix alone (makes the spell actually work like the description - i.e. actually work against high level spellcasters). Part of the reason spellcaster battles are so frustrating is precisely because Dispel Magic doesn't work properly. And most of the AI tweaks are common-sense stuff - mages will attempt to escape melee combat, cast spells smartly, enemies will gang up, call for help, use potions in their inventory, etc.


G3's Spell Rebalance is another good one, but it may deviate a little too far from vanilla and if you're looking for a sort of purist D&D experience I'd stay away from it.
