Engrish time. ITT post the best engrish you can find.

SNK alone could fill this entire topic.

Then why did they use "Natsume" in game and on their merchandise in literally every other game they did?

Maybe they fucked up the romanization, choosing nihon shiki, but its not wrong and it isnt engrish. Natume/Natsume is the same, just different romanization systems.

I'm glad somebody gets it. Actually most Japanese people I know type "si" and "tu" on an English keyboard when it's set to Japanese language setting to type "shi" and "tsu" respectively.

...What's wrong about this?

>> No.540951

>>540938

It's just bad translation. Dodongos don't like bombs, there's no "smoke" in the game.

>> No.540968

>>540848
Yeah, Ted Woolsey is like the exact opposite of engrish. He took liberties with the translation, and tried to make it sound natural in English.

"Engrish" is the result of Japanese people with a weak grasp of English, doing a literal, machine-like translation.

Japanese: 仕方がない
Good translation: "So much for Plan A."
Bad translation: "It can't be helped."
Typical translation hack: "It can't be shikata (helped)."

>> No.540970

>>540951
A bomb exploding leaves a smoke cloud. If a Dodongo touches a smoke cloud it will freeze. You can attack its head with your sword and it will leave bombs behind. It doesn't have to eat the bombs at all.

The game was giving you a hint that killing them this way is better.

Depends on how you look at it.
As cryptic hints go, it's fairly clear without being obvious, making one think that was intended. Don't think anyone went "smoke, what smoke... I only have bombs!".

True enough, I was just trying to make excuses for the picture, I guess. Plus I don't remember the bombs being that way as I haven't played the game since I was about eight! It's odd they chose that as their "Engrish" example when there are a lot stranger messages in the game.

Intentionally silly and absurd humor written by none other than Orson Scott Card.

>Gilbert soon realised that it would be difficult to design the game by himself; he decided to join forces with Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman, both of whom he hired for Lucasfilm.

>The game's insult swordfighting mechanics were influenced by swashbuckling movies starring Errol Flynn, which Gilbert, Schafer and Grossman often watched for inspiration.
>They noticed that pirates in those films often taunted their opponents instead of attacking them, which gave the designers the idea to base the game's duels on insults rather than combat.

>Writer Orson Scott Card helped them write the insults during a visit to Lucasfilms' headquarters at Skywalker Ranch.
