Arctic Fox isn't obscure over all but few people here seem to have played it. Early 3D open area tank combat. Challenging but a lot of fun.

Rodge Rock in Retroactive is a pretty amazing one.
It features free 360° movement due to the main character having rocket shoes, a neat pseudo-3D environment and absolute insane carnage to the point where you could consider it as some sort of 2D version of Serious Sam.
On the highest difficulties it's not uncommon to have like 30+ enemies on screen and the gore is surprisingly detailed like guts splattering onto walls, slowly sliding down and then rotting away.

It there's one issue it's that the full version is essentially lost and the dev lost the source code long ago.

It's a weird hybrid strategy/action game, where you build defences around your town and then fight off the invading Horde in alternating phases. At the end of each year you can buy upgrades, and the amount of money you earn depends on the number of crops/villagers/cows you saved. The overall presentation is filled with wacky humor, also the music in the floppy version is really good (by the same team that did star control 2)

Tony and Friends in Kellogg's Land
An advertisement game made by Factor 5 for, you guessed it, Kellogg's products that is considered to be one of the best of its kind, with multiple levels, bosses, playable characters and more.
Only problem is that the whole game is in German but unless you have never played a platformer before it shouldn't really matter.

well, can't expect compatibility with 20+ year old games.
I tested it myself just now and works near perfect on my machine using dosbox on win7 and specifically the third entry in the series, ultimate tapan kaikki.

Anyway, another game you might want to try is Assault Trooper (1997). It's an isometric shooter/stealth game with destroyable walls/obstacles and there's usually multiple ways to complete missions depending if you want to go in guns blazing or avoid enemies. Kinda like an indie Metal Gear game

I'm looking for an obscure DOS platformer. I think it was shareware and came from some shovelware CD. Around 1994 or 1995.

Pretty colorful, with lots of gradients and I think many rendered elements in a simple shiny style. I also think it had forced scrolling like Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair and it was pretty hard.

The player character was some round / fat looking guy. I think one of the weapon pickups let your throw a constant stream of knifes.

I can't remember the damn name.

There was Mine Bombers. It's a top down action game that kinda plays like Bomberman but has a shitload of different weapons and terrain types plus you have a pick that you use to tunnel through terrain by running at it. It's a bit tricky to get working proper though, iirc in dosbox you have to really reduce cpu cycles or everything runs at turbo speed. Really worth it though especially if you have a friend or two to play with as it supports up to 4 player matches, but it does have a single player campaign that is quite challenging as well
