Nothing wrong with not playing for score. I also like to play shmups but don't want to spend the time dedicating myself to a single game long enough to get good at scoring. I'll play a shmup until I beat it, maybe beat it a couple times. I'll try to 1CC it if I REALLY like it. Then I move on to the next game.

Who says this? Besides many older shmups don't even have scoring systems besides kill everything you see for points, so they're played for survival. Then you've got infinite looping games where scoring and dodge & shoot are the same thing.

Nice that game seems fun, I was trying it out on halloween but decided to play GnG instead, will probably put more time into it this year. Difficulty seemed much easier than AvP from what I played though. Reminded me of Rolling Thunder in the style of difficulty, where it seems tough but a little bit of memorization makes it get easy quickly though I don't mind since games like this are very fun to learn.

I cleared Sunset Riders today with bob after spending 92 mame quarters with default dipswitches. Lots of deaths by purple horsemen and fire arrow injuns sitting behind the boulders.
Can you guys tell me another arcade run n gun other than mystic warrior, metal slug or moo mesa?
I suppose I'll just keep going in the higher difficulties after doing it with billy/steve

Congrats. The 2 spots with indians are such bullshit. You can make the first one easier by outrunning the camera using slides though.

Side scrolling? There's not that many good ones, Gunforce 2, Demon Front and Dolphin Blue are probably the best outside of the big series. There's way more good top down ones like Out Zone, Shock Troopers, Gun.Smoke (autoscrolling), Fixeight, Commando, Mercs and Mamorukun Curse.

Yes, I'm mainly looking for sidescrolling but top down is fine too. Shock troopers was already in my list and now Mercs is in high priority just because I played it for master system many years ago but didn't know it was an arcade port. I'll check them all out, thank you
