Can anyone who has played it give me some hints and maybe tips? I don’t want to be told straight up where to go or what to do though I just want to simulate the experience of kids swapping stories and giving each other advice.

That should do it

Red bubbles are the worst shit in the second quest by far.

Draw maps, and re-read the manual again carefully.

I got stuck on something for fucking ever because I didn't understand that something I got in the first quest has more uses than I originally thought, even though the manual told me that.

But more importantly, draw maps.

This. The last two dungeons, in particular, pull some fuckery by requiring you to burn a tree and bomb a wall that are easy to overlook because you might assume the developers wouldn't hide anything there. Don't try to overthink the developer's intentions and just bomb/burn everything.

Whistle on every screen when you get it. There's more places in the second quest that have a staircase show on the overworld when you use the whistle, I think like six or so screens. One's in the northwest part of death mountain in an east-west connection screen.

Explore the overworld before you dive too many dungeons, it'll get you some money so you can buy a blue ring and arrows, find you several heart containers, and possibly net you the white sword early if you have enough hearts. Having an early white sword and blue ring is great for tackling future dungeons where the enemies are generally stronger and tougher.

Make a map on grid paper, possibly double sized grids so you can draw a little bit of detail in the squares. Or, download a blank grided map of Zelda 1's overworld and just mark stuff as you go.

The only one that really gets me is the conjoining canyon with the river on the way to the lost hills, putting an underworld entrence there was pure sadism, even if they do give you a hint to look within the area. It's worse because if that's got a secret, then it means a secret could literally be in any bush or wall, necessitating that you literally bomb or burn everything, which at that point, you're best off going screen by screen and completely testing it out before moving on.

This is the saddest shit I've seen on /vr/.

This is pencil and paper. It will assist you in tracking locations in the overworld, which will help you eventually narrow down where those hearts are. Note that only one entrance can be found per screen.

Graph paper for me. It's honestly as fun making maps as playing the actual game.

I think it's best if you approach the game as if you were making a guide for it for other players. Leave no stone unturned, map not only the overworld, but dungeons too.

>> No.5388936

As others have said, ignore the Zoomers. Grab a pencil and paper, and treat the game like a problem you have to solve. The answers are there, you just have to crack the nut. Remember you can walk through walls in dungeons and ALWAYS carry plenty of rupees heading into dungeons. You will be very grateful if you heed my warning.

This.
Also make sure you note blue bubble locations.
I remember the walking through walls messed me up as a kid.
