I'm down. What are some games that make you feel better? Long games, short games, doesn't matter. Just games that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

4 is one of my favorite games off all time, but if you're in the mood for a happy feel good time then maybe look elsewhere. I once seen IV described as an endless parade of emotion groin punching.

It's a game I can't recommend enough but yeah. If you have any emotions at all you will want to kill yourself.

BOF4 is great although it's mood is all over the place with depressing and uplifting bits throughout. Neither good or bad imo just depends on your tastes.

For positive feels i'd look into the first Grandia game or maybe the Ace Attorney Series as literally every game including spinoffs in it has a positive goodfeels ending. (Ghost Trick as well)
Dragon Quest is also pretty good about keeping the tone light and the resolutions uplifting even if it can get dark around the midpoint. (DQ7 with it's bait & switch resolutions for instance)

As far as stories go, my go-to game for fixing my mood was always The Longest Journey. This game was just positive all around and April Ryan was a joy to hang out with. Too bad they fucked it all up with the sequels the should have never existed.

And something less orthodox - I always found the Settlers 2 quite relaxing. Also this music is the epitome of comfy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9y9YrQ6ybU&list=PL452121672BB3A852&index=9&t=0s
In the same vein - Heroes of Might and Magic 2 with it's fairytalesque feel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyN72cMVFoc
Also, surprisingly, Core Tomb Raider games are really relaxing and comfy for me, despite sometimes challenging gameplay. There is this sense of exploration and wonder to this game.
And if everything else fails, there is always Baldur's Gate series. Romancing Aerie makes everything better.

Princess Maker games are a lot of fun and if you raise your daughter properly it warms your heart.

I personally always found a lot of joy in building medieval castles in Stronghold games, the early ones are great for that.

Sometimes a good JRPG exudes a nice feeling of comfy just because you get to run around with characters you become bros with, Tales of Symphonia is a great pic for that, I played it when it was released on PC but got engrossed in it like a child again.

Maybe not /vr/ but you're down, so eh. Comfy, consistently very funny, great characters, a really satisfying emotional ride. It's completely undemanding gameplay wise, but still beautifully paced - slow and chilled gathering evidence, pacey and energising when a trial heats up.

It helps I have good memories of where I was and who I was with when I first played it, but it's best played in bed, a few hours before sleep - perfect way to end the day on a good note. If you're down, I'd recommend it.

I mean, i think comfy is really subjective. Ico isn't a comfy game at all, nor is earthbound. This is just kiddy shit.

I remember talking about this before on here, and we came to agree some overall marks to make a "comfy" game involve some sort of peaceful or recurring place that makes you enjoy the stay, or gameplay that gives you the time to do what you need to while enjoying the world. Games like FFVIII and Okami remind me of a truly overall comfy game.

Did they PLAY Mother 3? Do you just 'comfy play' where you literally don't read or something?
Holy shit, I'm fucking 10000% mad. Comfy? Dude, the game is like an existential black hole. It's like if the genocide route in Undertale was played, but against you, and it's not murdering monsters, it's murdering your hope and goodfeels.

Holy Christ, no. Mother 3 is the stark opposite of comfy. It's like that uncomfortable feeling you get when you hear of some unspeakable tragedy happening to somebody you tangentially know but, really, there's just nothing you can practically do that will help either of you.

>Shadow of the Colossus
>Comfy
The entire game is literally designed around the opposite. Any 'comfort' you feel is undermined by the strangeness of your task, the emptiness of the world and the vagueness of the whole presentation of the game itself. Same with Ico, I have no clue why they're on that list.

It really is just "whatever the fuck I thought comfy meant," which is apparently "please play a game that is literally one gigantic escort mission."

NES Maniac Mansion always does it for me. For some reason it gives me the same feeling I get when I think about back in the day. It would be the early evening and you and a friend would be in the basement playing vidya, your older brother and a few of his friends would be hanging out somewhere in the house getting ready to go out, sister in her room talking on the phone, parents watching a movie in the living room eating popcorn or whatever, a couple delivered pizzas on the kitchen counter that people would just help themselves to whenever. Fuck yeah guys, I really appreciate it. I have wanted to play BoF4 since I watched my cousin playthrough it as a kid, but never had to chance until recently. You guys totally and completely convinced me to put it at the top of my list. I'm convinced this game will still be comfy as fuck just considering the nostalgia I have with my cousin. Thanks for reminding me /vr/ is still capable of being best board

Oh one more thing; it's off topic, but were there any other must play RPGs on the PS1 that are must plays, comfy or otherwise? Never played any on PS1 as a kid besides Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, and every Final Fantasy. I hear both Saga Frontiers are awesome, anything that you guys think will be a great experience once I have disgested BoF4 and ready for another?

Grandia.
Suikoden 2.
Tactics Ogre. (though I prefer the PSP version)
Dragon Quest 7. (the 3DS version cuts out 50 hours of drudgery though)
Saiyuki: Journey West.
Saga Frontier 1&2.
Ogre Battle.
Wild Arms.
Lunar 1&2.
Megaman Legends. (action gameplay so probably doesn't belong on this list)

Fun but probably not must play:
Suikoden 1.
Jade Cocoon.
Parasite Eve 1.
Xenogears.
Breath of Fire 3.
Vagrant Story.
Front Mission 3.
Threads of Fate.
Legend of Legaia.

I found the whole thing pretty comfy (apart from the horror episodes, but I enjoyed them the most). It's just so care-free and you just explore, see new things, and face no real challenges. I guess it was a happier time of my life and I played it late at night when I was drinking/smoking. You're right, may have been a bad example.

Dreamfall is OK. I really like the pacing and tone, not so much the new plot elements. Anything that happens within the bounds of established canon is a decent experience, like being in Venice as Zoe or exploring Arcadia in general, unless it involves the Azadi. Chapters is shit, but I had to play it just to tie up the loose ends.

I think for me TLJ is now depressing in hindsight, because of the sequels.
I don't know why the sequels decided to shit on and randomly kill off April Ryan. It's like the writers have vendetta against her. And it gets worse in DF:C where this Mary Sue Saga, that comes out of nowhere takes credit for April's heroic actions in TLJ. They even retcon the ending, so that April doesn't get a happy end.

Is there a way to properly play deadly premonition on the PC?

>> No.5401613

>>5400926
I’ve kind of wondered if they had a problem getting April’s VA back full-time for some reason, so they sort of left it a bit open with her falling into the water, like the whole “we didn’t see her actually die” deal. I don’t think she’s a professional VA so it’s possible she has some other life going on, also I’m pretty sure she had cancer around the time of Dreamfall so there may be a health reason too.

>> No.5401625

>>5401613
They've made blatantly clear in Chapters that that April is fucking dead for good. And her VA is still in the game - voicing different character.
And IIRC her VA had scoliosis, but is doing fine at the moment.
