NES/SNES Mini are perfect for playing the classic games thanks to god tier official controllers. Cheaper than an everdrive and they look great.

Why settle for anything less? You don't still play on blurry old TV's do you?

It's emulation and there's noticeable lag.

I don't have one of those but I've often been preferring to use my OSSC on my modern TV vs the CRTs I have. I own a professional model, a consumer model and a VGA monitor too

If I can beat Punch Out! on one of these things using my flat screen then the lag isn't severe enough to actually have been a problem.

Why dose everyone knock the "blurry old TV's" playing on a CRT television is part of the nostalgic gameplay experience, why do you think Nintendo implemented a CRT option into their mini consoles? Also to answer your question I do play the mini consoles more then the full size versions yes but I prefer to play it in its CRT mode and boy do I love that CRT mode.

There are so many options available for playing older games with varying levels of investment. I've held onto my CRT from 2004 and have recently been getting back into retro gaming and putting together a setup with original hardware.

I have a friend who recently got really nostalgic for some old SNES games after we went into a local video game shop that stocks old games. I decided I wanted to help them find a good way to revisit those games, they're less tech savvy and way more casual about this kind of thing overall, but got really worked up after seeing those games at this local shop. Like most people, they're don't have a CRT any longer and once I committed to the idea of helping them my mind started racing with all the possibilities for someone to play SNES on a modern LCD... original hardware connected directly and relying on the built-in upscaler, or using an external upscaler (Framemeister/OSSC) or going with a clone system as the Analogue Super Nt.. and then for games there's flash carts with the SD2SNES being the ultimate choice.. and of course this alot of that is total overkill and kind of absurd for a casual person.

So instead, for Christmas I just got them a SNES Mini. And of course it was super easy to add a bunch of additional games onto the thing. It's not perfect.. the sound was a little glitchy on one of the games we loaded onto it, the thing outputs 720p rather than 1080p and it's not compatible with some of the games we wanted. But overall, a pretty solid investment. I got to play Yoshi Island for the first time in.. maybe 15 years?

tldr: SNES Mini perfect for the causal person (friends, family, etc.)

For gaming on a CRT I think the original SNES plus HD retrovision component cables are the way to go. For a LCD display I think the Analogue Super Nt is an awesome choice.

For NES... it's much trickier. I am considering getting a Top Loader and then having it RGB modded, but that's a bit of an investment. I would love to have the Analogue Nt mini but that's also expensive and who knows when its going to be in stock again if ever. I have a serious itch to get back into the NES on a CRT and I'm not sure what direction to go in.

you haven't needed the --retroarch command in a long time. install an emulator for retroarch then right click on your added games and you can set the default emulator. make sure you're using the ce version of hakchi not the old regular one.

So long as you get a GPU for it, you can emulate just about anything on it. If it has intel graphics chip, some systems will have issues. Just get the best graphics card for it that you can, even if it's antiquated.
Been using pic related with some extra memory and a cheap nvidia card and can run damn near anything, Naomi/atomiswave stuff runs great
