X1,X2, and X4, are all great. X3 is pretty alright not bad but as good as the first two imo. X5 is a game I really enjoy but is pretty flawed in all honesty. X8 is not as great as the classics but still a really fun game. X6 and X7 are both hot trash

man I love dark edgy megaman, you need to do yourself a favor and check out that one brazilian fan comic if this is your kind of shit. About the late game being a joke though what I meant is that the late game stages are practically nonexistent, you're lucky if you get more than a corridor to the boss room and even then it'll be two screens long at best. Kind of ends the game on a sour note imo

My biggest gripe with X3 is how you pause when firing the upgraded x buster. The whole appeal of X games is the fast and fluid controls and being forceably stopped to fire just fucking ruins it all.

I tend to agree that X3 is the weakest of the SNES ones but Sigma is such a sick fight on buster only runs. I always cut it more slack than it deserves because it was the very first mega man game I ever played and first game I remember making me fall in love with a series so fast as a kid

I had X4 as a kid. Loved the artwork and anime shit, but the game was too hard for me to really get into. I finally played MMX when the SNES Classic came out and honestly I have that game beaten to a fuckin T. I can't get into X2 at all though. MMX is at least worth a shot in my opinion.
Armored Armadillo is the most fun song in that game. Spark Mandrill is a close second.

Nothing after the SNES is worth playing. You might have some intermittent fun with the other games, but it's not worth your time.

X4 is crap, don't believe retards. If you really want to party with amazing characters like "General" and "Double" as X and his Xbox-hueg sprite, be my guest, but it's barely an action-platform game anymore. It's more like playing Double Dragon with a gun. Enjoy landspeeders and other stage gimmicks.

5-6 introduce other dumb shit, like "here, you can either use the most vanilla suit, or here's the fully upgraded suit for free, I wonder which players will choose?"

I like X, X4 and X5.

X5 has some issues, and could benefit from making the bosses more aggressive, but other than it's an OK game. And desu a good entry point to the series even though storywise it's the end of the core series.

I played the shit out of X as a kid, X2 felt off, used to play a lot of X3 because I thought more upgrades= better game.

Revisiting it all, X is great, X2 is fun, but retarded upgrade locations, slightly better controls. X3 feels like torture, that music is mindnumbing garbage.
X4 is bizarre. I love those stupid cutscenes, but I think I was missing a big thing about the brother and sister robot being the same being at one point, and then she fuses to become a boss? Regardless, the in-game story is beyond stupid. Quite fun gameplay.
I thought X5 had a stupid gimmick with those boss level systems and upgrades, fuck that.
Actually had a better time with 6 than 5. I found hostages fairly easy to rescue, with only a few dying. Nightmare system was dumb, but I enjoyed it a little more than 5. Great music too.

There is a reason why they split the Legacy Collection into two parts OP. 1-4 are the good games and 5-8 are the bad ones.

The problem with the franchise is that they wanted it to sell obviously and they felt in order to do that they had to get a lot more story focused and load up the games with gimmicks. Sadly Mega Man games are pretty poor sellers next to the blockbuster type games so it was a very unfortunate casualty for gaming.

Had the entire franchise stuck with the core principles of what makes a good MMX game the series would have quite possibly been my all time favorite 2D sidescroller games and most certainly recognized as some of the greatest of all time 2D games by most just like how the original series is held in such high regard.

On a side note, for all you Sigma haters out there, screw you. I love Sigma as the ultimate villain of the X series. He's basically its Dr. Wily so I never minded him constantly coming back somehow. Only mentioning this because I have seen people mention how he should have stayed dead after 2 or whatever and these games should have had a new villain. lel F off with that.
