I'm finally buying a flatscreen TV after living on only A CRT for the past 15 years. I'll be getting either the LG C8 or C9 OLED.
current systems:
nes (composite)
snes (currently using a scart > component adaptor box)
n64 (svideo/composite)
genesis ( currently scart to component but also modded for svideo)
Seems like my options for retro games are either composite only or a upscaler, correct? LG's dont have component video support. I'm not tossing my CRT but i also dont have another room to set it up in either.

I'll add that I dont mind emulating (except N64) its just nice having the actual controllers instead of a xbox controller (which I dont own). there also wont be a computer in the same room as the TV

pretty much. So either your games will look like shit, or you'll pay a lot of money to make them look slightly less like shit. Why not just put the crt in a corner somewhere? You don't need an entire room for this

Would 240p vidya even work on these newer panels?

thats a good point. i suppose in a pinch if i had family or visitors over i could plug in the system to composite for an hour. but youre right, ideally i would just move the games with the CRT to another space. it was just nice being able to watch tv/movies/games all on one screen in front of my couch.

oh shit, never thought of that. that corner has had the tree there for 4 years, but now i could make it the CRT corner. thanks bro

>>5375247
definitely do this. You have all this hardware and a perfectly good crt. Trust me, it's not worth it to get into upscalers if you've already got all that going for you. Even with upscalers, the games won't play or look as good as on your crt

>>5375301
and I'll just add that at worst, you can use an old laptop or raspberry pi and usb controller, plug it into your modern tv if you ever feel like having everything there. Best of both worlds

thanks bros you just saved me a ton of worry and money. I can put the money i was going to use for an upscaler towards a 4k player instead.

>> No.5375391

It’s far easier just to get one of the mini consoles and hack it..native HDMI, let the TV do the upscaling.

In my experience it’s almost never worth having a 3rd party component do the upscaling to 4k. The TV is -always- better

plus rgbmods for nes and n64

You really only need the CRT for light gun games.

If you can't find space for your CRT somewhere you will honestly need to embrace emulation anon. You're going to have to to get a) low input lag gameplay b) decent image quality.

Or any fast paced action games, platformers, fighters, shooters etc etc. Or if you want the screen to scroll without motion blur, or if you want decent colours, or proper blacks etc.

You mean where a dumb baby asks the same stupid questions but pretends they have a CRT or it broke or whatever because they think it makes them look less retarded? Yup. It's another one of those.

Most do support 240p, or at least LG's do.

Did you ever go back for your GED, or is McDonalds taking care of you and your kids?

I am not the OP, but if you spent less time than it took for you to type out that pile of bullshit, you would have seen where the OP posted a photo of his current situation. Just look at the 3 photos posted on this entire thread. Learn to read, and eventually you can get that diploma.
