in the artwork:
>wild west aesthetic, deserts, mesas
in-game:
>generic jrpg aesthetic, grassy plains and woodlands, european castles and walled towns, royalty/nobility, etc.

That's exactly why I like WA3 best, because it's the only one of them that actually has a legitimate western setting.

It came in the worst possible moment: FF7 release. The remake version is shit and not as funny as the original. See Jack's intro as an example

Is OP confusing setting and worldbuilding?

God I love Wild Arms. Awesome soundtrack as well.

I suspect he thought the 2nd moon actually being a Death Star was a really neato idea, and that somehow made the entire game original.

At least it only took WA 3 games to finally nail the aesthetic it was going for. How Star Ocean manages to keep getting away with bait & switching a scifi RPG into a generic fantasy setting is beyond me.

WA1 has just the right amount of everything and this is why every aspect of it felt special. Unfortunately the games that followed it had literally no idea how to emulate this excellent mix and went to shit extremely fast so that already in the third game everyone was some YEEHAW spaghetti western anime caricature with a gun walking from one boring dust bowl to the next if they weren't busy with those shit-ass berry growing minigames.

I was a bit disappointed with that aspect of Wild Arms, still,it's fucking amazing.

well there's also the nanomachines and the guardians probably being terraforming programs and humanity having ventured into space and splintered into separate evolutionary paths as they colonized other planets and had to survive out there

there's a sort of overarching hidden lore that elws demons and humans all had the same ancestors or that humans colonized the elw planet and pushed them near to extinction before their own cousins from space the demons found them and tried to do the same thing

each game is a functioning parallel universe and there's supposedly an alternate reality where everyone became dragons or something

shit is wild man

The anime executed those ideas better IMO.

This games do nothing to build up the world and don't have any hints of it being any larger than the main plot
