Does playing 240p games in 480i make a significant difference in terms of visual quality? I found out the PS One classics on PS3 don't output at the native 240p. I was hoping to use my PS3 on a CRT as an emulation machine for PSX, but does the upscale to 480i make it trash?

Yeah, it's literally unplayable.

Yes.
Flickering low fidelity trash.

Not an upscale. Looks like dog shit.

Shit, well I guess I'll use the PS2 then.

Yeah I guess upscale isn't the right word here. Couldn't figure out how else to phrase it. Thanks for the warning.

Yeah it makes a significant difference, for the worse.

Even if it was 240p, don't. Input lag out the ass.

The ps3 doesn't introduce "lag" as you call it. MAYBE a hd crt would and MAYBE a lcd would, but you are not good enough to notice that.

Yes it'll be 480i and it'll look like ass. If you want to use the official PSN classics and get 240p on a CRT, go with a PSP 2000, 3000 or GO and get video out cables.

I thought those didn't even output in fullscreen

PS1 games on PSP run full 240p/480i

No fuck you, I tried every crt I have and it doesn't make a difference, while PS1/PS2 run perfectly fine on a cheap LCD. PS3 has input lag built within the emulation, it can never be good.

Wii does it better

No worries brah but yeah PS2 would be much better for what you're looking to do.

No he's right to a certain degree. One example is something like neons in Mega Man X3. You can definitely tell compared to original hardware. Feel is noticeably different.

Lag's only been a problem for me in (duh) rhythm games and fighters.

I truly feel we are living through a monitor dark age, where some genres—rhythm-action, light gun shooters—just won't be viable until someone invents a flat panel with a high refresh and 0-1ms delay, and we've all left software emulation for FPGA cores.

The fuck do you think upscaling is?

>>5365657
No, it is. Morons like the twat you responded to think “upscaling” means increasing the internal resolution. It doesn’t.

New rhythm and fighting games are made with current display technology lag in mind.
