I played this game as a kid and loved it. I don't know why - it was that sweet spot when the PS1 first came out and FFVII hadn't been released yet. FFVI (then known as 3) was my first RPG and I wanted to sink my teeth into any RPG I could find. I loved how brutally difficult it was. I don't think I could replay it today though.

Garbage gimmicks they took from Final Fagassy such as random encounters and the waiting gauge and leveling/XP, retarded story involving pseudo-science about mitochondria, too many cutscenes with disc 2 essentially being a movie (would be less annoying if they were skippable), and boring and linear map layouts.

I assume people only like it because of the waifu main character or whatever.

It really is a fun as game and the humor is great. When I was younger it was pretty difficult at times, but you really just have to git gud as memed as that often is. Once you get the grove of how the game wants you to play, it's really fuckin' fun. Plus, the music is god damn amazing.
