Is there any equivalent to flash carts for disc-based systems like PS1, Dreamcast, or Gamecube? Or do you just have to hard mod them and burn individual discs for each game?

>> No.5359116

Yes for the PS1 and Dreamcast. Just use a Wii for GC games.

research Optical Drive Emulators

PS-IO for PS1. GDEMU and USB-GDROM for DC. A lot of people don't bother with GC directly, they just use a modded Wii and load games from HDD with Nintendon't.

If you want to just burn games, most DCs don't even need a mod.

Dreamcast has drive emulators and an SD card adapter, but if you have CD-Rs lying around burning ISOs is quickest as the majority of Dreamcasts will play them out of the box

GC you can use Swiss and an SD Gecko Memory Card adapter, but getting code running is a hassle. Optical drive emulator is also available. Best to just softmod a Wii/WiiU and use Nintendont

I never had a PSX so don't know there

PS1 has PSIO. I just got one and it's pretty cool, but you still have to hard mod for it due to the way the PSIO works.

Imagine going through all that trouble just to play Final Fantasy VII

PS2 & PS3 have softmod options for getting PS1 to boot off a hard drive. The slot in the back of the PS2 is for a hard drive.

the equivalent is a pc with terabytes of .iso, .bin, .cue etc

That'd be great if emulation of N64 and onward was actually good and consistent.

I have had no problems using a PSX with a modchip or a uniROM flashed gameshark. Replacement laser assemblies are cheap, and Staples brand 700mb CDr work just fine. I burn at the max speed available. I don't know anything about the Dreamcast, but I do believe there is a respectable ODDE. As for the Gamecube, you can use a modified Wii and run the games directly from backup Flash drive USB hard drive with a homebrew app called "Nintendont".

>> No.5359427

For gamecube you can use a Wii and it will give component as well, you only need a little simple software hacking and a SD card with the games on it. For the dreamcast there are a few options - some ham-fisted ones using the broadband adapter cost only a few dollars however they do not load or play tons of games properly because of the limited bandwidth of the BBA. GDemu is the best solution, it simulates the GD-rom drive itself and is the perfect solution, though a little costly and you also have to open up your dreamcast and install it. There are a couple of clones of this device nowadays, you are going to have to do your own research for it as things are changing all the time. There is also something similar for the Playstation 1 that has just recently been released, it was featured on Metal Jesus Rocks lately. One downside is you have to be handy with a soldering iron to install it properly.

What's the point? All of those have good emulation options, only one I can think of that I'd rather play on a real console is the Xbox.

I don't think this has anything to do with emulation.

Well don't respond to the troll them, he is refreshing the page for a reaction. I highly doubt someone could be dumb enough to think it was a useful post.

Well, if you like wasting time with real hardware while getting none of the perks that emulators provide, be my guest, lmao.

You can use GDEMU for the Dreamcast but you'll need to buy a Chinese clone. The guy who makes the legit ones is a fucking faggot of immense proportion who "isn't running a business" so he takes forever to fulfill orders and gives everyone who questions him the finger.

He also has a Saturn solution called "Phoebe" but is much the same about that. Sadly there is no clone solution for that but some dude is working on a different solution that uses the VCD port at the back of the Saturn to offer USB loading.

If you're a baller, buy the USB-GDROM from russialand.

Guy is an autist, but unlike the faggot pole making GDEMUs, he actually supports his shit, and is fairly open about his lead times. Also his shipping was mad fast considering where it's coming from.

Plenty of people suggested GDEMU.

Personally I like my discs so I’m not going to canibalize my existing Dreamcasts.

Honestly if you're so convinced people should be playing older games in lieu of new ones you should be showing them the easiest ways to make that happen.
