N64 or 360 version? also do you prefer this game over the kazooie?

over the original is what i meant to say

>> No.5357261

The vast majority of people prefer Kazooie over Tooie, but I enjoy Tooie slightly more. I don’t mind the backtracking.
The 360 version is almost identical to the N64 port outside of four things:
-difference in skipping dialogue (not a speed runner, don’t care)
-some character portraits are replaced (I prefer the N64 Mumbo portrait in Kazooie)
-textures in general seen upscaled (personal preference, I don’t care though it does make everything seem a little “shiny”
-game doesn’t suffer slowdown and pretty much stays locked at 60 FPS; this is an especially noticeable improvement in Tooie

>> No.5357269

360 has better framerate but I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like the controls suffer because of it. I can't pull the same swift moves as on the N64 original. Maybe it's a controller issue rather than framerate though.

i remember the xbl arcade banjo kazooie was easier because if you died you had to collect all the notes again on the n64. xbla was collect a note, it's collected forever

If you actually put the two versions and consoles next to each other, the N64 version is not even close. All N64 fags can do is nitpick tiny things. The game runs like shit on an N64, after seeing how it is on Xbox

>> No.5357579

I can't speak on the quality of N64 vs 360, I only played the N64 version of Tooie.

As for Tooie Vs. Kazooie, I much prefer Tooie.

It's just more improved mechanically. It has all of the first games moves, some of which they improved on, like being able to steer the forward roll and beak barge, and replacing that useless claw swipe with a forward peck. And it had some moves that should have been in the first game, like ledge grabbing, and egg aiming. And you can lean how to double your swimming speed if you come back to rescue the fish in spiral mountain. You get so many more mobility options, and that's not even counting the double jump or glide moves the characters can learn after splitting up. So really it feels way better to move around in the game than it does in the original.

I also think the game has a better difficulty balance, the first game was just piss easy up until the last two worlds, but Tooie has a decent level of challenge right off the bat.

The only thing i'm not really a fan of is the factory level and that bullshit canary mary race in cloud cuckoo land ( fucking bitch keeps me from 100% completion every time ).

I'm probably in the minority, but I think all the mini games and FPS segments were a lot of fun. I used to play them just for funsies after I had beaten the game.

I completely forgot, but it was outraged that Gruntilda no longer rhymes or taunts you as you explore. Also tower of tragedy is shit compared to Grunty's Furnace Fun.

>>5359254
Yep.
Also the idea was that BANJO and KAZOOie, metaphorically grow stronger by finding musical notes as you pass thorough stages breaking Gruntilda's spells.

Now you use the notes to pay for a soldier for the skills? It's so strange. It's like they forgot what they did in the first game.

thats a good change. It was a novel idea at the time but dying at 95 notes is the worst feeling. Before you say get good, imagine if all other collectibles had the same system then tell me it would be a better game.

I think it's fair to say I have a love for both games, but BT/BK is dependent on what I'm in the mood for. There was a lot more platforming and traveling in BT, but the simplicity of BK is very grounded and charming.

Different anon; I feel like losing notes after dying means the nature of that aspect of gameplay is different.

That is, saving which notes you’ve gotten on xbox makes it easier, sure, but it also makes the point of collecting notes about doing it at your own pace; you are free to come and go from that level, die, reset the game, etc., as long as you get each note at some point.
Resetting the notes after you leave/die feels terrible on N64, sure, but it also provides a huge sense of accomplishment when you manage to get the last few notes in Rusty Bucket Bay without falling to your doom in the engine room. It’s more about setting a “personal best” for any given go at a level.

>> No.5364686

>>5364395
not that anon, but I agree, the point was that you were supposed to be good at the game to collect 100.

>> No.5364694

360 version. Slowdown with bouncy camera legit made me throw up as a kid when playing stone Banjo.

>> No.5364778

Tooie is bad.

- Notes are meaningless. They now exist in groups of 5 and 10 so you can pretty much get all 100 inside 5 minutes, and they aren’t scored like in BK.
- Cutscenes and dialogue for way too much shit.
- Being Mumbo is always aggravating. He exists to perform ~4 actions. You have to go into his skull, activate him, leave the skull, then hope you get every Mumbo pad in one go or else you’ll have to repeat the process at some point.
- Jinjos are a constant cocktease. Either you spend tons of time wondering when you’re actually going to complete a full family of Jinjos or you’re just getting pissed because you find endless Minjos.
- Some levels like Cloud Cuckooland feel like pastiche garbage.

On the other hand it controls better, especially swimming. Hub world is also cool, probably more fun than Grunty’s castle.

All of this and more

I appreciate that having all the original moves from the start but it really showed that they were struggling to come up with new shit. The new skills feel so fucking gimmicky, most of them are only truly useful a couple of times.

Dont really feel much differentce between original and port. Loved Kazooie, tried numerous times to play Tooie and just cant. THey made the worlds bigger yes, but didnt fill them with anything. THe backtracking is atrocious and even talon trotting all the way is tedious (even moving around in Yukalaylee is less aggravating) IN kazooie, you were always doing something. It was all together and there. Tooie everything is WAAAY too far apart and you spend far too much time going from place to place to do something, with little to nothing in between. Even the enemies are too spaced out for me to feel like im doing anything. Plus the somewhat darker mood and themes just felt... wrong. Plus the none of the music to me was as memorable to Kazooies. Mechanically I'd say it was the better game, but Kazooie just felt more fun. When i finished it, i was ready to play it again, but i said nah ill try Tooie. And the happiness never came back. Also FUCK Mumbo segments.

Doesn't the 360 version save music note collection? I've never played the 360 version but in the N64 version, if you don't collect all of the notes the first time, you have to collect them again.

Anyway mostly I like Kazooie more than Tooie. I like that Tooie has more consistant boss fights. There not all winners but it feels wrong that Kazooie only has like, 3. I loved how every boss in Tooie had those grandoise subtitles and battle-remixes.
Probably my favorite thing about Kazooie is that at a certain point you pretty much learn all of the moves, and the game just flows naturally after that. Tooie keeps on bringing in new gimmicks, and it always feels like you can't collect something because you haven't found the move or the glowbo or whatever that lets you do it.

>> No.5370690

>>5364778 here, just wanted to add:

Despite what I've said, Tooie isn't exactly -not fun- to play. If you're a huge BK fan, you will still want to play Tooie, similar to how there are bad Mega Man/X games that you end up playing just because you really need more Mega Man.

If you play it under the right circumstances, it's still fun. For example if you tab out of the emulator during an unskippable cutscene (I do this with a lot of games with bad/perfunctory stories). And if you're able to distance yourself from what Jinjos represented in BK and effectively ignore them in BT, they become less of a nuisance; you won't always feel like you need to find them all before moving on.

When you get past these things, BT is still a satisfying game. You can still feel BK's soul somewhere in there. I just don't think it could ever be considered the superior game. Totally cool with people having that opinion though, it doesn't make me mad. I could see if it were my first Banjo game thinking it was superior (I think this is what happens a lot).

>> No.5371075

>>5370690
Yeah, I played them both in order as a kid and liked Tooie more. A lot of the things Tooie adds that weigh the game down were very special for the time (huge worlds, more cutscenes, more collectables). When you replay them it looks like excess, though, compared to how elegant Kazooie is. Still get excited when I hear the Mr. Patch theme though.

If you were only going to play each game once, I'd say Tooie is superior, especially when I was a kid with limited games to play, bigger and grander was better, period. However, with each repeated playthrough, Kazooie gets better and better as you can plow through stages more efficiently, while Tooie gets more tedious since you've already seen the bloated story and no amount of skill/expertise can prevent you from backtracking a lot.

I love both games a lot, but every time I turn on Kazooie, I end up playing the whole game, while I drop Tooie during the mine level
