>actual open world jrpg
>could pick a character and just run around everywhere after their intro.
>encouraged talking to npcs for info on new areas and quests.
>polished version of ff2s stat system(aka no levels)
>you can have a party of 5 of whoever you wanted to with some small exceptions(like albert and his sister due to plot reasons, unless you glitched or cheated.)
>there was no main story that dragged you along, instead there were events and quests happening all over the world that were connected to the main villain in one way or another.
>HP was restored after battle so you knew the game was gonna try to fuck you up good in fights.
>there is a permadeath system but you have to have the IQ of a goldfish to lose anyone.
>almost any character(there are some exceptions) could use any weapon type/spell depending on the class you picked for them(you can change/level them up at the cost of a somewhat limited resource) and classes also have passive and exploration abilities that let you reach new areas and avoid encounters.
>glimmerig techs midfight is kino as fuck. also team attacks as well.
>OST is fucking great and comfy af (https://youtu.be/h6AqkQMrJ5Q)) and the battle themes are all hype. kenji ito is a great composer.

Romancing Saga's PS2 remake is criminally underrated. The only REAL negatives in this game might be the art for some peeps and that there's TECHNICALLY a time limit in place for quests. doing random battles advance the games "time" but it takes a fuckton of fights to do so anyway. i liked it because it discouraged grinding and instead expects you to properly avoid enemies on the field(each type of enemy had a certain movement pattern you could use to avoid it.) and just getting gud in general. this game bleeds soul. saga in general does. also saga games' artist should have done the character art for FF cause amanos art just doesn't fit imo.

anons play Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song!
also SaGa Frontier on the ps1!

Honestly this killed it me for me. Not a fan of timed quests they annoy me because I like to do everything at my own pace. I'm the kind of person who has to collect every treasure and power up or I feel like I'm not getting the full experience.

Good game but it's not my thing.

>Always have a guide in case you miss that once chance to get a quest or party member.
>Use gameshark codes to make sure your story progress doesn't get fucked due to random battles.
>Grab a save that has at least done the game 3 times in order for you to be able to have any party member and fight the final boss in his true form.

>> No.5357195

>>5357152
the time limit isnt that strict, the game encourages multiple playthroughs and one optional super boss requires 8 playthroughs(p much 1 for each character). there's a ton of detailed guides on gamefaqs. also keep in mind that missing a quest or two wont hurt you in the long run. its more about team composition and gear. im not gonna lie I also dont like timed shit but this game isnt that oppressive about it. in fact you wouldnt even know about the timer if nobody mentioned it. the game doesnt go out of the way to shove it in your face. the only way to find out is to talk to a tutorial kid in the main towns.

This game was a tacky mess that wanted me to take chibis seriously.
It was one thing to take sprites serious because that was the effect of the time, but why they chose this godawful miniature style instead of something raw as fuck like Vagrant Story is beyond me. Its visual design is so awful.

>> No.5357683

>>5357570
the visual aesthetic is kino you mongrel chimp, the point is to be an SD "normal sized" humanoid and fight fuckhuge monsters and scuplted abgods in hand to hand combat, in an homage to classic rpgs like ff5 where exdeath is like 16 times the size of a normal person when you fight him in combat

The game is made for playing blind. So when you actually play the game again you can discover new quests that you may have missed. Not only that I enjoy that structure, the world moves with or without the input of the player at these locations thus the world has a larger scope than in other games. It is like in Fallout with towns getting overran by super mutants.

What was great is how quests, monster rank ups, and stat growth and obtaining skills interlocked with one another so well.

This is one of my favorite games, but it seems you have to finish it to like it. And you have to be willing to have a guide on-hand at all times.

My problem with Minstrel Song isn't the BR/ER or the heavy penalties for battles, but the lack of direction. I don't know how many times I've played this game but I always need that one massive FAQ, and even then I'll still end up wandering for an hour or two between locations trying to find new quests or progress what I have.

The combat system is where this game really shines because proccing Surges and other improvements/combos is very satisfying. Having to use spells on strong monsters to improve them is rewarding once you get to see their stronger forms in action.

RS:MS is not for casuals or people with little patience, so you're not going to find many fans anywhere even on /vr/.
