Would it really? I don't think Japanese sales are being affected by adding english subtitles, as for western sales, I assume they're minimal and only come from a few hardcore fans.

I think they're more afraid of spreading the DVD raws, because moralfags can generally justify uploading something that aired on TV more than a DVD exclusive. Even if they're hardsubbed, there are nips who download subtitled versions and just ignore them.

It's pretty pointless anyway, any nip who wants the DVD exclusives can find most of them at this point.

As for RE2, it was a pretty "eh" special for me. I liked the RE1 special more, and the extension to finish Claire B felt pretty dull. RE2 is one of my favorite games, but I just don't think it lends itself well to GCCX, it's a bit too long and far too easy, especially in the Japanese release where the zombies hardly notice you.

It's mostly that they'd prefer for people to buy the DVDs, and them fansubbing the DVD-exclusive material is giving people a pretty good incentive for NOT buying them. It's the same reason they stopped distributing the subs for episodes that are on the US DVD - it's stuff that you CAN get by paying money to the actual rights holders.

It's also not so much a "refuse to sub DVD specials" thing as it is a "prioritize TV episodes because those are things you can't buy even if you wanted to" thing.

From how I understand it, it's mostly because at the moment, the question "why should I buy this DVD when I can download a rip for free?" has a pretty straight forward "because you want to support the show" answer, and they don't want the question to turn into "why should I buy this DVD that doesn't have subs when I can download a rip that actually DOES have subs?".
And that's legit enough.

Just watched the Mario RPG episode, it was fairly uninteresting. The game is so long we get constant jumpcuts, and so easy Arino never really struggles with anything. Not much in the way of interesting reactions either.

RPGs do not work with this show.

Man, i watched the Budokan special the other night. It's amazing, you don't see that kind of honesty in western programming. I'm terrified of public speaking etc so watching everyone backstage preparing mentally and being absolutely petrified was actually a little nerve racking just to watch - I can't believe AP Nakayama got on stage and sang a song! He's so shy, he must have been shitting his pants but he did it anyway.
In the end they all managed to pull off a perfect evening, and the video was really well edited and compiled. What a beautiful episode.
