Which is better /vr/? Mega Man 2 or 3?

>> No.533461

2 IMHO, 3's just a derivation of 2

3 IMHO, 2's just a version of 3 with less content

They're both derivations of 1.

All of them are reverse-time derivations of 10.

3 IMHO, if only for the perfect amount of difficulty over 2's relative ease. Which is not to say there's much of anything wrong with 2 besides.

2 was too easy.

MM2, but MM3 was good too and I don't blame people for picking MM3.

>> No.533840

2 is too easy, the slide in mm3 is unnecessary and doesn't add anything to the gameplay. My favorite is mm1.

>> No.533850

>>533643
I agree, plus I think slide but no chargeshot is the perfect balance for the series. It makes dodging boss moves a bit more managable so the fights can be faster paced, but the charge shot just ruins weapon balance and you always hear BRBRBRBRBRRBRBRBRBRRBR

>> No.533856

MM3, because sliding is the single best mechanic that has ever been added to the series.
Also, 2 has a lot of sections that are just... kinda dumb (disappearing block section in heat man's stage, quick beams, etc.).

>>533840
>slide doesn't add anything

MM3 will always be my favorite, both due to nostalgia reasons and the fact I just consider it the sweet spot in the series when it comes to both difficulty and design.
I know that MM2 was a passion project for Inafune and his team and that MM3 nearly killed him, but even with unused assets still present that promised an even grander game I don't agree with MM2 fans that claim it's somehow worse for it.
That said, MM2 is also an awesome game and I can easily see why some people prefer that.

Playing 3 right now.

I think 2 beats it with regard to the Robot Master stages, but 3 seems to give more substance.

When I say playing 3, I mean I just beat the Robotmasters and am now re-entering the stages to fight the doc-robot

For the first time - I never had MM in my house

>> No.534302

Wily alien transformation beat the hell out of Gamma as a final boss. Gamma was crap.

>> No.534325

If 3 didn't taper off so much near the end, it would have been so much better. Both are great games, but I'd say I enjoy 2 just a bit more.

I think my favorite of the NES ones is 4 though.

>> No.534402

I'd say their about equal. 2 is easy to get into and 3 has the slide.
Fuck 4 and its introduction of the charged buster shots. Thank you for breaking the series.

>> No.534409

I think 2 is a pretty cool guy. eh has the best weapons and doesn't afraid of anything.

3 is for losers.

>actually liking metal blade being absurdly OP and breaking the game in half over its knee
Why?

>> No.534586

3 is clearly superior. 2 is only popular for how widespread and easy it is.

>> No.534605

>>534402
Charge does not break the series. The time you could have spent filling the screen with pellets goes to a single shot. It's a fair tradeoff.

All soundtracks since 4 have been ruined by the charge shot.

Yes this. I'm so fucking tired of people bitching about charging

if its such an issue, then don't use it

Charge shot is ballin. You are a dumb person who often loses their keys.

>> No.534854

3 has the better soundtrack

>> No.534857

Both games are great, but I prefer 2 a little bit more. Mostly because of nostalgia, I confess. I played 3 years after 2.

>> No.534862

2. I thought it had better bosses.

Wily wars is the best. It's 1, 2, and 3, with saving and 16 bit graphics. And you can unlock a mode where you pick weapons from all three games.
And Megaman isn't dead. Capcom just hit the breaks on one of the most overproduced series in existence, and they're working on a new one. Seriously guys, do you want a new Megaman in the same vein as Sonic 2006?

>> No.535047

>>534828

Yeah, I've never understood bitching about unbalanced weapons in single-player games. Competitive multiplayer, sure, I can understand that. But in single player all you have to do to prevent an OP ability from ruining the game is have an ounce of willpower and just *not use it*.

>but I shouldn't have to deliberately gimp myself--

Why not? Some of the most fun in retro games comes from self-imposed challenges like minimum-percent runs in Metroid games and the 3-heart-no-shield challenge in Ocarina. It's what I've always liked about Nintendo properties: you can essentially choose your own difficulty by deciding what powerups not to get. In this way they hold timeless appeal both to casual gamers who play for the atmosphere and experience, as well as hardcore players who play for the challenge. And there's nothing wrong with a game appealing to more people if nothing has to be sacrificed to do it. All you have to do is have the slightest hint of self-control. And if you don't...well, game designers aren't obliged to appeal to people with no self-control any more than they are obliged to appeal to people who are just plain bad at videogames.

>> No.535056

>>535034
But the controls are awful and you can only fire at a fixed rate...

>> No.535063

>>535047
Not using something that's OP is not the same as the game not being an unbalanced mess.
