Every now and then I try to return to the first 3D game, and while there's some level of goofy charm and it does approach an interactive slasher movie at times, the sacrifice of the colorful art direction of the first game and the over-reliance on dialogue/narrative makes it feel like a slog. I'm always burned out by the time I reach the castle.
