Why hasn't A_FireBullets ever had a horizontal offset for the shot? It would allow for non-centered weapons to be more truthful.
Missiles A_FireBullets spawns even have a spawnofs_xy parameter, which looks fucking stupid with projectiles flying sideways out of the gun because it's trying to aim at the centered bulletpuff.
Blood had horizontal hitscan offset back in 1997 with a pitchfork but (G)ZDoom *still* can't do it properly.

What are some good mods that just replace enemies? I wanted to give Colourful Hell a try, because I really like the idea of it, but turns out it interferes with the gameplay mod I have been using that relies on drops from enemies for weapon upgrades, and somehow it overwrites those tables. So I'd love something else in that vein, to help spice up my runs.

It's esseantially like a Colorful Hell, just instead of being based off of MMO Rarity systems, it's based on champion monsters from Binding of Isaac.
And unlike CH, instead of just replacing the default monsters with the custom ones, it just overlays the effect over any monster, making it compatible with everything.

you're not going to find a monster mod that does what you want, because the gameplay mod you're using almost definitely relies on replacing the monsters to make it drop the necessary items. and if two mods replace the same things...

Playing through Chex Quest 3 in software mode and I noticed the performance sucks major ass on E2M3 when looking towards the garden maze. There anything I can do about this?
Crispy Doom is out of the question since Chex 3 doesn't support it, and other source ports generally have forced linear fullscreen scaling if not using your monitor's resolution.

I'm running in software mode, and I always turn off the texture filter. I wanted to play Crispy Doom-style so I'm running at 640x480. Other source ports scale this up poorly, GZDoom is the only one that does it properly AND has compatibility for Chex Quest 3 (as well as most mods in general).
My issue is purely performance-based; other source ports don't have this issue in their respective software modes (even ZDoom) but they don't scale the game up to my monitor's resolution as well to keep everything crisp.

It's funny because D4 sort of feels like Quake but with a Doom skin on.

Enemies are not sprites, so even the lowly grunts must take quite a few more shots to kill to maintain a certain challenge. And also since you can't have as many enemies on screen anymore, the game relies on setting up arenas where you're locked in and waves of enemies keep spawning-in to replace the demons you kill (with no way of knowing how many waves are left and thus if you should go balls to the wall now or wait a bit more)

I have to say I prefer the challenge that the classic DOOM permits - you are faced with full information on the threat you're facing (all enemies already spawned, all items already spawned, now deal with it your way) instead of "WHOOPS I didn't even use this powerup because I assumed the game would send a 'fuck you' couple last waves like it has sometimes, so I was saving it for that, but they never came."

Nihility is under 10, but it's nice and worth playing. No music, so either enjoy the silence and the good use of ambient sounds, or put something moody on in the background.

Mutiny is pretty good and hard on Hurt Me Plenty (I found it was just the right kind of hard for me), but I imagine it's milder on Hey Not To Rough.

Suspended In Dusk is only 4 levels, but they're fairly long, if you play on not UV, it'll probably not be too hard.

How do you like Metadoom? I find some of the weapons lacking a little in terms of feedback, and I think the shotgun and SMG altfires use too much ammo, I'm fact I feel ammo starved often when playing Metadoom. I didn't think too highly of it at the time of release and it is probably one of Kinsie's weakest mods, although it does have rather good presentation values which he is good at. I'm basing this on my first playthrough with MetaDoom, I'm not very far in this current playthrough with it. I fully agree that the SMG altfire uses up too much ammo; I get it's more powerful but it feels like the pistol ammo drops don't give enough to really counter that. Same goes with the D44M turret thing, I love how the altfire just murders everything in the sight, but I have to use it like a very expensive BFG because it eats up ammo like crazy. I don't really remember using the altfire on the normal shotgun, but like someone said in this thread or the last thread, shotgun ammo is abundant in most wads, so that wouldn't bother me as much if I used it a lot. I have no idea what the SSG altfire does if it does anything, which just confuses me as to why it's there. These ammo issues might not be as bad if I used the Soul Cube more, but I only used it occasionally. Also once I had the Unmaker I felt like the plasma weapons became redundant because the Unmaker is just amazing. This may be because I was picking up demon keys on occasion, but I had no idea they were connected to the Unmaker because they didn't really seem to be connected since when I picked them up they only said vague things about that I shouldn't have picked them up. But then again that may just be my ignorance of D64, or not reading the documentation. Also I didn't really use the items like the grenade, dog collars, etc. because I didn't really feel the need to use them. I did start using the siphon grenades more once I figured out they could heal you though.

Also, the Lost Souls in this irritate me more than usual and I'm not sure why that is; the green variants are clear why, but the normal ones still irk me. Maybe because I primarily used the shotguns on them for a while. I guess this made the holy water and fire extinguisher more appreciated when I figured out they can one shot the Lost Souls.

Just beat Doom The Way Id Did : Lost Episodes, 8/10 would play again.

Alright. So I figured this shit out.
The reason is Bloom and AmbientOcclusion.
Somehow multisampling makes them easier to calculate (?) so they affect performance less and thus you get slightly more performance with MS that without it.
Without those settings multisampling's affect on the performance is slightly negative as it should be.

Still this interaction between MS and SSAO/Bloom is very curious.

Doom PSX runs like absolute sex on the native emu using gpu_peops and core clock cranked to 500 with the Dark Forces hack. Very nearly approaches the native PRboom core in smoothness. If you don't use gpu_peops the sound crackles at high clock rates (same in Duke). the RA build for the PSC also supports Jaguar, 3DO, GBA, N64, and I'm pretty sure one of the Genesis cores supports 32X games. I don't know why I'd really want to play any of the particularly bad console ports when I can play the PC wads on the same machine, but it's cool that it's possible. No mouse support for QII sucks though.

Both mods replace monsters, and more than that they use similar scripts to do similar things (H-Doom scenes are basically same as fatalities from BD on a technical level). The mods simply wouldnt work together anyway, no matter what you do.
