There are some great games (for all retro consoles) that are not well known in the west (because they never were released here/there) or that just were buried in the time by more popular franchises.

Post those obscure gems /vr/

Pic related.

Star Ocean for the SES,never officially launched outside japan.

Can't say it's not well known, but the Japanese version of Tales of Phantasia on SNES is much more superior to our GBA port. I just played a translated ROM on emulator a few years back. Got to the final boss but couldn't beat him. I'm going to by a reproduction copy soon if I can.

If Cybernator and Metal Warriors had a beautiful baby, it would be this.

This must be one of the most unknown games by Square Enix in the west. It's an adventure game where you control an spirit inside a teenage japanese girl. In the game you have to form phrases in japanese to communicate with her choosing different words.

Mystic Ark is the spiritual sequel to 7th saga I believe.

Better atmosphere and difficulty, I might make a complete run sometime.

The game blew my mind because the menu system its identical to the menu in Tales of Phantasia

Tower of Duraga remake for TurboGrafx 16.

It got a fan-translation but still hasn't really caught on, which is sad because it's definitely the definitive way to play the grandaddy of all Action RPGs. Adventure for Atari being the great grandaddy.

Fuck. Yes.

I never see anyone ever talk about it at all. Anywhere. It's very strange and dreamlike, but a good RPG.

Is it easier than arcade? I ended up giving up on the MAME version because it was balls hard.

Tengai Makyou (Far East of Eden) this series dont get enough love from translators. Im playing through the PSP version of "The Fourth Apocalypse", and damn... it's so fun and quirky... I played other games on this series, but this is my favorite.

The translation gives you clues about how to spawn the treasure chest in each level, so that does make it a little less frustrating. Not by much though.

>>533693
This was really great if you liked Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics. Too bad no one really got down to ironing out the last fuckups of the translation.

I've never seen someone talk about this game, it amazed me as a child because 'it´s like zelda but you can jump!´

Dead of the Brain. This is another of those games that will never be known on the west. First, the only console release it had was for the PC-Engine CD in 1998! And then, of course, it was never localized. There was translation project on JunkerHQ some time ago tho.

As far I know, it was made by the same team after they quit Namcot for internal reasons.

Unfortunately the SFC version is a glorified beta and is so full of bugs that you will never get to play it (neither in cart or rom) without things getting fucked up or crashing anytime.

Whoa, that's pretty nuts.
