I'm building myself a collection of retrogames.
Up until the NDS-PSP and Wii.
Not 360 nor PS3.

About 12 TBs of gaming.

If the internet gets fucked at least I will have my 12 terabytes.

Still I'm feeling a bit empty. I used to dream about many of these games, that I couldn't pay for. Now they are mine and I don't give a fuck.

I haven't played seriously since the Xbox, except some months of PS4 (Yakuza O, FFXV, etc).

Anything to say?

Well, the idea came because of the mini PSX. It has been hacked, so... not a bad idea to have all the games in a couple of SD cards and real, official HW.

But then I found a Sega Saturn collection. And then a Dreamcast one. And Xbox. Even PS2.
(Not to mention SNES, etc. even some japanese computers).

DS, PSP, GBA...

My plan is to build a computer in a console looking-box and put it below the TV.

I wonder if it's legal in my country.
Here you can copy music, books and movies as long as you don't sell it, because they are classified as art/culture.

Miyamoto received some prize here given by the King. So I guess it's art/culture too.

Here's a little game I like to play:
I've compiled a list of all my games based on release dates. When I think back to the 90s, I look up what game came out 20-29 years ago on this very day and just play it as if I just got it fresh out of the store.

These sort of ratios are not limited to a few systems. Most games are absolute shit. Some people feel the need to have as many roms as possible. Knowing that these links helped me find a few games quickly and easily is why I repost it.

>>5309252
>Do you have a torrent for legal computer games
No, and all of what I posted, I found here. I felt it was appropriate to copy/pasta it back. I have used it for perhaps 5 psx games and a few wii titles, but for the most part I avoid "borrowing" bits and bytes from the internet.

>>5309254

This is great advice, and extends to more than just video games. I keep a NAS server with disc redundancy mainly for important documents and family photos. Anything that is not critical can be lost without issue.

He's got a point. Getting too many roms/games at once, especially digitally, leads to the paradox of choice where it becomes difficult to choose just one game to play and stick to. I'm not saying that emulators are worthless or whatever, I think that paying for 2ndhand copies of games when the original devs or companies don't see a dime is retarded, but there's merit in limiting your scope to games you know you like rather than dumping entire rom/iso sets into emulators. Even better is if you held on to games you liked during your childhood as the physical games will have that much more sentimental value.

Every "retro" system I have, I have from when I was a teenager. I gave away my NES, SNES and Genesis because of the simplicity that the Wii offered. I don't keep many roms installed, and most are versions of titles I own that are in boxes in the attic. Some people can have every game in the world, and enjoy them individually without issue. Others with ADHD may have issues jumping around between 20,000 games, and never finishing any of them. To each their own I say. If someone gets enjoyment out of it, who am I to judge? If you have these issues, limit yourself to a very small drive, and only play what you have installed. However, a 2gb SD card in a wii can hold a lot of cartridge game titles. Do I think it is absurd to have every game ever backed up locally? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that If I wander up into the attic, I have 6 or 7 paper ream boxes full of games in various conditions from NIB to cart only. I have more games than I will probably ever play. I keep the quality ones I really enjoy near.

no people genuinely have problems controlling themselves when it comes to this sort of thing. It's much easier observed in kids where it develops genuine problems with them, usually leading to behavior similar to ADD/ADHD.

I haven't looked into Switch hacking in a while, so forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I heard that a firmware update somehow managed to patch out the hardware exploit on newer firmwares somehow. I didn't really read into it because I still don't want to hack it until the FW stops being updated- my meaning was that I don't want to hack it until it's dead because I like being able to go online in Smash or Splatoon.
>>5310785
>Isn't that just a myth to discourage people from mass-downloading ROMs?
Look up The Paradox of Choice. Or just talk to people who mod their systems and add a hundred games to an external hard drive. It doesn't take long for them to say "yeah man I can't choose a game LOL"
It may apply less to people downloading ROMs since they tend to know which ones they already want, rather than newer systems where people download anything that looks remotely interesting because they can.

I'm looking into doing this too. Right now I have a PSX fullset downloaded, as well as the standard No-intro fare of stuff.
I honestly say just disconnect from the actual medium itself and start trying to connect to the experience that resides within. I have this problem where I focus too much on what and how the data is stored rather than what the data holds, in the end, that's all that _really_ matters.
Getting more into the data side what are you using for a backup, anon? I'm considering dropping some cash on a custom NAS instead of my hackjob, "old XP era PC running debian with an external drive as primary data storage" shitbox that I've got going right now.

First of all, every second fucking anon had this same revelation like you did after building the ""perfect"" emu-box.
The problem is that it is oversaturated and every additional game gives you less joy.

What you need to do is take those romsets you have, put them on an external drive... and let them there. You build your box and make that everything works, then you go into the external drive and pick 5-10 games to put on the box. Play these games, at least 30 minutes - 2 hours, to get a feeling for them and not the rush to switch through like a madman. If you are done with each game, think which ones were good and which ones sucked ass. Delete the one from the box that sucked ass, rinse and repeat. If you do it this way you appreciate much mor the single games you have in the library and build up a connection with the plattform, instead of being spammed with infinite shit.

Nobody ever needs all the games, whoever claims that has collection autism. Those are the same people who would by a game for 10k dollars just to get the collection complete and never look at it again, just to shoot themselves when they are 42.

It's honestly the result I had, it was more fun going through and learning about the games that was fun. After collecting them it was done there was no more fun in collecting. I just tried some games out, found a bunch I liked and focused on enjoying those. I have a few games I play once a year, and at this point I am pretty content with my collection. I trimmed a lot of fat from my collection and that gave me much more happiness.
