This is the "The Last Jedi" of Final Fantasy. Dumb as fuck, made with the sole purpose of being subversive/original, tried to capture a different fanbase and killed the franchise in the long run. Also both of them are the 8th entry of their respective franchises.

Final Fantasy isn't remotely equivalent to Star Wars. Each FF game tells a self-contained story with new characters in a new setting. Each Star Wars movie is an entry in an ongoing saga in a single setting with one big cast of characters. TLJ's treatment of the story and characters is nothing like Final Fantasy 8.

It's better than any modern FF, and unlike modern ones it actually feels like an FF game.

If you look at it fairly and impartially, you realize it had the best bestiary (only Tiamat/Bahamut and Behemoth/catoblepas used recycled models; everything else was distinct and easily-located by geography), arguably the best soundtrack, one of the best world maps, some of the best towns, and some of the most memorable versions of summons. Plus they'll never make a better mini-game than triple triad.

And I never had a problem with the draw and junction system. From my perspective you have to be pretty low IQ to think it was hard to figure out and master.

I think those who say it's bad are overly-critical.

The junction system is extremely simple but a little difficult to figure out at first, and the result is that you don't get it at first, and then once you do you can immediately break the game with it. It's bad game design.

I remember when I was a kid going to my cousin's house all the time and watching him play Final Fantasy. I have vague memories of him playing FFVI, strangely no memories of FFVII, then a few times he played VIII, and a shitload of IX and X.
Growing up my parents only bought me Nintendo systems so I never got the chance to play FF games myself. Now that I'm able to buy my own shit I have played through VI, VII, and am currently making my way through VIII. Despite Squall being a tryhard faggot I still enjoy the game. I'm more excited to get this shit over with and play IX though desu.

I'm a hardcore FF8 fan, so many times I would even try to escape reality with lucid dreaming, I would be in Balamb Garden where I would often train with Zell in the training center and help Selphie with the Garden Festival, but one day as I was talking to Selphie, we went to my dormitory for a private talk.
