This game is pretty fun, I don't usually play schmups but it is pretty fun figuring out which powerups will help you get through the corridors, it feels more like breaking the game though.

This game is pure nostalgia to me. It's such a shame the shmup stages are your typical drawn-out, boring Compile fare.

This game is indeed the most /vr/-core shmup. A shmup for those who prefer Zelda to shmups.

I agree, it's a really fun game with a really nice soundtrack.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if it got a modern reboot. Would it be like a combination between Metroid and Starfox? Or something else?

Yup and that's a GOOD thing.

Got up to this guy and kept getting my shit wrecked, so I'm starting over now because I don't think I searched every room for power-ups and it's more fun to play it again that to just go check ever room.

Anyway, is there a finite amount of smart bombs in the game, the ones that kill all enemies on screen?

Also, what do the powerups do that look like a bunch of ^ on top of one another? The manual says they "improve your main weapon" but in what way? There's already a separate attack power power-up.

That boss is by far the hardest in the entire game, your best bet is to play defensively using maxed-out fireball subweapon which can destroy the bosses projectiles and deal good amount of damage.

I'm pretty sure you can't get more if you waste them all so yes.

>what do the powerups do that look like a bunch of ^ on top of one another?
They are upgrades to your main weapon, they alter the pattern of your projectiles
IIRC it goes from ' to " to ,",

You also get life-bar upgrades when reaching certain amount of points, this happens 3 or 4 times.

OP here, replayed the game and meticulously made sure to visit every grid space and collect every item along the way. I guess I am probably up to the last boss, pic related. Just attempted him once but got bored of playing defensively and died. Does he just have a shit ton of health?

Okay I beat him on my second try. Pretty fun game. I think pic related gave me the most trouble, then this guy was the second hardest: >>5303962
