Hey /vr/,

How about we play some Mario Kart 64? All you need is the following:

>PJ64 2.0
http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/func-startdown/121/

>AQZ Netplay 2.0
http://www.mediafire.com/?s2w5bc2wh1qndw4

>Mario Kart 64 (U) [!] You can chuck the rest in the recycle bin.
http://romhustler.net/rom/n64/mario-kart-64

After installing the emulator, you extract the plugin in /Project64 2.0/Plugin/1.6 Plugins
Then, fire up the ROM so that your emulator sets a default ROM directory path.
Finally, go to Options, Settings, Plugins, pick "AQZ NetPlay v0.20". And after clicking OK, go to Options, Configure Controller Plugin..., and select/configure an Input plugin of your choice.

There. You're all set. All you need then is to fire up the ROM once more, type /name WhateverNicknameYouWant and then type to join my server:

/connect 189.223.33.133 5121

Here's hoping for a jolly good time.

>> No.529891

Oh, almost forgot.

Go to Options, Settings..., then toggle off "Pause emulation when Window is not active?"

I'll be bumping the thread for a couple of minutes before giving up.

I already posted 3 links for everything needed, with an optional one directing to the official plugin thread on PJ64's forums. I seriously doubt that if it were hazardous as some people would believe, that it would have endured for as long as it has.

By your logic, people would still apply the same paranoia to a RAR just as well. For the sake of conveniance, I'll make a bundle for a future thread.

Sorry dude. We started playing since nobody else seemed to join. It was pretty fun, but fuck it if I'd embarass my 12 year old self with how much I suck today.

I'll make a new thread in a couple hours... 10-12 I guess? Well, if nothing else comes up IRL, of course. Not sure, though.

If this thread is still alive when I come back, I'll bump it. Feel free to hijack it and post your own server in the meantime, though. It's pretty straightforward and self-explanatory.

I'm out for now. Take care everyone, and have a nice day. Oh, and thank you, kind anon, for humoring me with a couple of races.

>post your own server
I'd happily do so, especially since I very recently upgraded to 80/20 fiber optic, but I've had nothing but issues getting any kind of server to work so far. I'd be willing to put more effort into it if there were any dedicated retro netplay servers I could put on.

>> No.530145

>>530138

Do you happen to have Steam? I've been meaning to work on something to that effect for some time now, but I've been severly discouraged by my own lack of expendable allowance to rent my own server, and I'd like to see if we could work something out.

>> No.530180

>>530145
I do, but there's a few other things I'd need to sort out even if I could get a working server running. Do you think a Raspberry Pi might be capable of running a small server? If I'm going to have something running 24/7, I'd much prefer it be something low power.

>> No.530198

>>530180

As far as I'm concerned, the software I had in mind (basically Emulinker) doesn't really consume that many resources, other than bandwidth. I've hosted it before from a domestic, decade old computer from home with no real impact on its performance. Trouble is, I have a shitty connection at home, and while I would be able to sustain a relatively small server (somewhere around 4-6 people), I doubt everyone would have a smooth experience, and I'd pretty much be fucked withought being able to muster the most basic stuff like web browsing.

At any rate, if you ever sort your problems out, I'll be making a couple of these threads every now and then, and you can hit me up there if you want. I've been meaning to offer /vr/ the possibility of playing old videogames together since the very first day it was conceived.

Anyone up for some Mario Party? I didn't get to playtest it at all yesterday, and I left the thread quite fatigued and annoyed. So, yeah, all you need is in the OP, and a ROM link for Mario Party is somewhere in this thread... maybe this one >>537210 has everything too, but I haven't checked its contents.

After you get everything setup, remember to launch MARIO PARTY, then type

/connect 189.223.33.133 5121

(server is in Mexico, west coast)

I spoke with a friend yesterday who had tried the plugin a long time before I did with his own friends, and he confessed having no problem connecting with 4 people. I'm bringing this to everyone's attention due to yesterday's incident, in which it was speculated that a 4 player game would not work, given that before that we had an almost flawless Mario Kart 64 session with just 3 people.

Therefore, it is necessary that I declare that if we suffer from lag, that it is indeed most likely someone's fault and not the plugin's (despite that, while functional, is still in preliminary stages). But it is by no means an automatic pass to agressively accuse random people for being the problematic client in our networked game when you have no substantial evidence to back your claim.

I understand how utterly frustrating it is to have a lag filled game, but I believe that (assuming everyone posting or interested in this thread being adults) there are better ways to express yourselves, than outright telling people to fuck off on the sole assumption that you "think" he's the culprit.

I share my finds for everyone to have fun equally, not for people to have fun at the expense of others. I do hope you understand that these threads are a matchmaking service. If you're having problems connecting with a specific group of people, you are free to advertise your own server for others to join.

You can also fetch it from PJ64's forums. There's a link somewhere near the beginning of the thread. You'll need to register on the forums in order to see the download link, though.

But I can't really see what your problem with the mediafire link is. I just clicked it myself, and it works.
