I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>sick red theme with the wood and consoles
Totally accidental. It just worked out when I picked up this tv last year that it really looked good. It was a 1994 model, and wasn't used all that much. It was being sold by a 2nd hand shop, and sat on their floor for 4-5 years. I got sick of seeing it there, and finally decided that I could tolerate svideo for it. It has been the best looking and sounding TV I have ever owned. The stereo effect from it is outright amazing.

Wood panel tv's are the tits. Also, Trade school is where it is at. I don't know what trade you did, but I did school for pipe fitting. Luckily it was close to home for me. If I was out of town, I would expect to have something similar.

>sick red theme with the wood and consoles
Totally accidental. It just worked out when I picked up this tv last year that it really looked good. It was a 2004 model, and wasn't used all that much. It was being sold by a 2nd hand shop, and sat on their floor for 4-5 years. I got sick of seeing it there, and finally decided that I could tolerate svideo for it. It has been the best looking and sounding TV I have ever owned. The stereo effect from it is outright amazing.

Stop telling them you dolt. The supply is drying up for new ones, and they barely ever appear on ebay.

In all seriousness, you can find: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pelican-Universal-System-Selector-Pro-6-A-V-Component-Switch-Unit-PARTS/113520640898?hash=item1a6e5b8382:g:GgIAAOSw4zdcLt7~ in fully working condition for about $30-40. My buddy uses one and it's pretty flawless. Uses it for playing and also recording gameplay footage.

You get 7 s-video/component/composite inputs on the back. There is a composite/s-video on the front also. There is digital audio on 3 inputs, so this is really nice if you've done digital audio mods or use non /vr/ consoles like a heathen.

If you have a little extra money and a lot of extra space, look for used matrix switchers from Extron or Kramer for the ultimate solution. Then, in addition to switching between consoles you can easily route one video signal to multiple displays. Lots of businesses have switched to digital and are getting rid of these for absurdly low prices considering how much they used to sell for.

I have one each for VGA, composite, S-Video, and BNC-RGBHV. My only complaint is that most of ones you'll find use phoenix connectors for audio and you'll have to make RCA adapters yourself (tedious, but not hard).

OP of the PVM 2530 post here. That yellow mvs cart is one of the 161-1 carts and yes I did go the cheap route at the time as I wanted an original AES and not a custom consolized MVS. I got those a couple years ago, and this was before there was any reliable AES flashcart on the market. With the NeoSD now available, I’ve been wanting to save up the money for one, but I’ve had other priorities outside of game collecting for a while now. I keep the multicart in the system to a minimum, and I do have some actual AES carts like Ninja Combat, King of the Monsters, and Cyber Lip. DESU I haven’t had much trouble with the multicart, a couple games are buggy, but the rest run flawlessly.

>Is there some kind of wooden built in ladder?
Yes, actually. The layout for my apartment is really unconventional. There's a ladder that leads up to this kind of crawlspace storage area, but it's almost large enough to be its own (very small) bedroom, so I thought to put all my retro gaming stuff up there.

The hatch leads to the crawlspace under the roof. It's just filled with insulation and probably spiders etc. I have it taped off for now.

Personally, I like the idea you've got going with it. Be sure to show your progress with it, man.
Last question is shelving. How are you going to do that with all that vaulted ceiling? I don't know of shelves that can accomodate that, and the TV seems to take up a good chunk of the one viable wall you've got there.

>> No.5303859

>>5303843
Haven't quite figured that one out yet, hence the lack of shelving. I thought about building a custom entertainment center to hold everything, but I'm not sure I wanna invest that much in an apartment that I might not be in for more than a few years.

>> No.5303923

>>5303859
>Custom entertainment center for a rental
I'd advise against that. Seems like a waste of money. Ideally, you could find one that would fit that space. But that might not happen given the unique space shape.
Or just find some general shelf that can replace that little black one you have. And if that still doesn't provide enough shelf space, you could possibly get one of those hanging rope shelves on the vaulted walls. A two pack of em are like $18 on Amazon.

Not that poster, but I will say this from my experience. I keep fish tanks. Large one at times (90+ gallon). The next time you are near a pet store look at how crappy aquarium stands are made. The shelves look more than capable of holding weight keeping in mind that a few pieces of pressed cardboard hold up 600+ pounds of water in a glass box.
