the games that sparked your gambling addiction

Never understood why people would sit around for hours rolling stats in this game. If you're so autistic you can't stand not having perfect stats, add debug mode in and hit ctrl-8 for maximized stats.

It also makes the game easier. Idk why anyone would want to do that.

Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.

There’s nothing wrong with having a good female character but forcing one into a game because of complaints is just fucking sad.

>> No.5287439

Well, gambling implies risk. They couldn’t exactly make you stick with your roll, I guess. They probably should have offered a deterrent by giving you 3 rolls directly after the opening cutscene. At least then people might not want to go through character creation again.

How to add this feature to a game and give the player a solid reason to not hit reroll?

Gotta get that 18/00

>> No.5287651

holy shit let me tell you about the 5 hour sessions of 10 year old me hitting reroll in Warriors of the Eternal Sun on Genesis, my first ever RPG

Buy Beamdog.

It's just better.

>2e strength
God what a stupid mechanic that was.

>Gotta get that 18/00

Why? The manual bumps it to 19 no matter what.

In the meantime, you can just have your mage cast strength on you, which lasts a ridiculous amount of time.

I reroll stats and characters in any and every game that has them randomly generate.
I don't know why I do this when the smartest way would be to just accept them and then edit the save or cheatengine the stats to what I want them to be.
If you're going to reroll eternally until the stars align and you get what you want, you may as well just speed shit up and make them what you want.

In the Goldbox games, you could max out every single stat, the dev's excuse was for allowing you to replicate your pnp characters. However, doing so would change the encounters. A party with normal rolled stats would face, say, 6 kobolds, but a maxed out party would face 20 kobolds.

Does Darksun scale encounters as well? That game uses the same system and I always maximized everything.

I know about the manuals you can get. Just a LOT of people want the high stat pools. Just making a joke since it was the STR stat

I don't think so, I guess that was exclusive for the Gold Box games. Besides, Dark Sun minmaxes as it is.

One thing I never get about BG was maxing a stat and get 18/XX
What does this mean?

It's "exceptional strength," a mechanic 2E AD&D had that essentially added a whole new tier of Strength for Warriors between 18 and 19, that's divided into subtiers of a percentile roll (1-100). Basically you got yet more bonuses to hit and damage the higher on the 1-100 roll you got.

It's pretty dumb and hasn't been used before or since.

>> No.5289964

>>5289942
It only applies to strength. In 2nd edition D&D, 18 strength is the maximum for a player character.

Warrior classes (Fighter, Ranger, Paladin), however, can get exceptional strength, with is expressed as a percentile after 18. If you roll an 18 as a warrior, you can roll again to get a percentile bonus to your strength.

Sounds kinda dumb

>> No.5289973

>>5289970
It is dumb. It is like that because they wanted to give warriors an edge in combat, but 19 was established already as Ogre strength. So they stuck in between.

In Darksun, they reworked the stats on an 8-20 (4d4+4) scale, and what was exceptional bonuses are placed in the normal range, with "ogre" strength above 20.

DESU just this image itself makes me want to DL the game from my gog library and roll until perfect stats (not mentioning that I dont know how the 18/xx works). I dont even want to play...

All you need to know is rolling until 18/00 is pointless.

Baldur's Gate already had good female characters, too.

>> No.5290567

Most people just shadowkeeper 18s in all categories they want anyway creating a super character. There’s enough broken items in this game to not need it anyway

>> No.5290569

Just roll a sorcerer. Then your stats don't matter. At all. You can have an intelligence of 3, like that of a retarded monkey, and still throw around 9th level spells like a boss.

>> No.5290571

>>5289970
2e is a pretty barbaric system in general. It’s not uncommon to make a starting wizard with like 2hp if you got bad stat rolls. Also, early game it’s a Rolodex of missing until someone critical strikes and kills you instantly or you them.

That’s true
