Play 1 without easy patch edition

I get really over-leveled just combing the place for items.

I don't mind turn based combat RPGs, played Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana.

I've read how the inventory system works and how your allies need to be revived it just seems all so tedious. Because of that I've never bothered to try the game.

>I've read how the inventory system works and how your allies need to be revived it just seems all so tedious
That actually works like Dragon Quest as well.
Once you get Life Up omega you can revive party members (there's also items like Life Noodles).
The inventory can get a bit cramped but you don't really need to carry that much stuff anyways, and once you get a 2nd party member it stops being really a problem.

I admit to not having played the Dragon Quest games, but I appreciate you informing me more so how Earthbound works. May actually take the plunge, thanks anon.

>> No.5287421

How would it be an up-to-date Earthbound dialogue? How do modern humans talk nowadays? Memespeak?
Also, it's kind of fascinating that not only games are able to "age", but dialogues too. Intredasting.

All the main cast and many NPCs were released for the Banpresto UFO catchers. Even Starmen and Master Belch.
But it needs more enemies, Borgs or Juana/Nancy/Kelly, the R robots, even Gyiyg.
I believe there actually exist an original clay statue of each of those enemies, but not sure about Gyiyg.

That's not what I meant at all, it's witty most of the time IMO. Better than anything that tried to do that afterwards.
It's just that it's not comparable to a book or "good dialogue". It's creative for it's time, genre, and even medium, and that's its strong point, not the literary value.

>tfw play Mother 1 on NES without the easy patch and it quickly gets into my top 5 games of all time
>Have replayed it multiple times including a no-run button run and with Tomato’s translation (Sandhop’s is better)

>> No.5288458

>Sandhop’s is better
How?

>> No.5288474

>>5288458
If you put aside “muh accuracy” for just a moment, Sandhop’s script has way more character and it translate the cultural references very well. Tomato’s script is super stilted in comparison. They are both similar actually, Tomato’s just reads like a dry super accurate fansubber and Sandhop’s reads like a game that would be released.

On top of that the drawbacks of the Sandhop version are easily fixed with a decensor patch. The GBA port with Tomato’s is fucking ugly and the music is terrible. The NES version of Tomato’s script is even more truncated and stilted because of character limits.

Basically:
>Sandhop script
>NES version
>Decensor/Mother Titlescreen patch
>no run button

When I played this game, I guess I had fun, but not really. Considering all the grinding I had to do, the constant deaths, and overall a chore to play the game. I even got the best equips with the two Franklin badges and other stuff. Talking to people and seeing the cutscenes sort of made it worth it in the end.

I mean they still happen if you use a guide, but not that much in my opinion as to be considered "constant". Using a guide doesn't depreciate this game at all.

Is earthbound easy to hack? I'm surprised no one has tried to remake mother via hacking an earthbound rom

>> No.5297667

>>5297561
The copy-protection on Earth Bound is legendary. The game will literally fuck with you for trying to hack it by throwing more enemies than the system can handle at once at you, and should you endure all the way to face Giygas, the game crashes and wipes your save data.
