Famiclone Thread
Have you got one of these? Hoe about the multicarts? Did you got lucky and got one with a bunch of games that don't repeat themselves?

I had a Family Game in the early 90s.

I still have my good old fashion Nikita, most people had one as far as the early 2000, people started getting PS2 around 2006 when the prices dropped like crazy and we could pirate the games thanks to the easy access to the net. That's the same time when arcades started dying around here, we still had KoF98 tournaments betting money as 2005.
Pic related.

If you order a multi-cart from aliexpress today, it's highly unlikely that there will be any repeating games, I've got a couple new ones with good selections.

Jesus, why is that console so massive?

I remember the main problem with these fuckers was that the AC Adapters were fucking ass.
Wonder if you can play nes/fc carts or even a flashcart.

I live in Brazil, and pretty much every kid in the 90`s that ever played a NES game actually did it on a clone. The original console wasn't even released oficially here until 1993, when there was no point in getting one anymore because the SNES already was around. But only the rich kids had these. The son of your average wageslave parent around here would probably get some variation of a famiclone. And i played the shit out of it. I even got the chance to play great games that were never released in the US as a kid, such as Adventure Island 4, The Goonies 1 and Samurai Pizza Cats.
Multicarts only didn't repeat themselves if you bought the ones with really few games, anything above 7 and probably it will be just 3 games repeated countless times. They were pretty fun, tho. It was like opening trading card packs. Most of the games on the cartridges were generic shmups and arcade games, but you could also find good stuff like Contra and Super Mario Bros.
The controller on this thing sucks, it would stop working a lot depending on the position. Also, A and B are inverted for some reason. I guess the designers didn't even bother to look up what a NES controller was like. A cool thing about ithe console tho, is that it has two cartridge ports, so you could play both american and japanese games on it if you wanted.

It has some Microsoft office knock off, it came with a mouse and keyboard.
You could write and paint on it, you could save your shit by adding four double A batteries in the back of the console.
>>5287216
They are not shown on this pic >>5286369 but i used to test Dragon Quest I-IV and they worked just fine.
I was checking this >>>5284692 thread and maybe i will just buy a bunch of Famicom games and start using this bad boy again.

Also, in the early 2000's your pic related was VERY common around here, OP. Lots of misinformed used to buy that for their kids during the era of the PlayStation because they didn't know better and it was dirt cheap.
Pic related is a christmas gift i got from my grandmother at the time.

fc carts works fine? that's great, now that i remember I think i used to play Robocop 3 on my famiclone (it was a purple cartdrige iirc) guess that was actually the jp version.

Rad looking clone, thanks for sharing.

I lives in Pacific islands when I was a kid in the 90's. Since everything was imported, even video games, I had: a Famiclone from HK, an American SNES with a regional adaptor for European and Japanese games, and later a PAL PS with European and Australians games.
Didn't really care since I was just glad to play videogames, but it sure was a clusterfuck.

Yes, two with 64 and 76 games. The one with the 64 games came with Castlevania.

Me and my wife like the Retron 5!

>> No.5288205

maybe I'm wrong, bug I remember there was a multicart with Kirby's Adventure on it, that would be amazing considering the game uses battery saves.

>> No.5288221

Multicarts were almost always NROM games because anything with banking would have been too expensive or else require custom mapper hardware.

Damb. I'm Brazilian too. I have a fond memory of playing SMB in a famiclone just like the one in your pic at a guy's home when I was a kid. I slept over at his house, we played it for hours, so much so that the levels music was stuck in our heads after playing it, I remeber talking about it with the guy, about how we kept hearing the music in our heads. Sweet childhood memories...

What are the best Famiclones? Not counting FPGA shit obviously. I've heard some of the early ones with discrete CPU/PPU are actually pretty decent. Any good ones that are still in production?

>> No.5288381

>>5288336
There's like 1 or 2 weird PAL Famiclones with discrete chips if you hunt around on AliExpress, but I'm not aware of any NTSC ones currently in production. I could just not have look in the right place yet though. Most of the modern NOACs are passable, but Famicoms are so cheap there's no real reason to buy them.

>> No.5288450

>>5288381
Oh I know, I already have a Famicom as well as an NES. I just like weird clone hardware for some reason. PAL would actually be fine by me, guess I'll try looking around on AE.

Totally fair, anon; I love it too. The Famiclone world is fascinating, and most interestingly, still thriving today. >> No.5288490

what's the name of these famiclones?
One was a N64 controller with a cartridge port on the back
Other a wheel controller also with a cartridge port on the back, had pre-built games like Ferrari Grand Prix and Race America

Sounds a bit like the iQue Player, which isn't a Famiclone but an officially licensed N64 variant. There might be a Famiclone like that too, I don't know.

That would typically be called a Power Joy.

Around $15, shipping is the tricky part. Depends on where you live. A Famiclone will likely still be cheaper shipped from AliExpress; it all depends on specifically what you're trying to buy I suppose. Famiclones are fun to have and play in their own right.
