Name some retro games that had an impressive physic engine.

The buttery-smooth wall jumping still remains one of the most satisfying things in all of video gaming.

I remember emulating it many, many years ago in the early 00s and loving it. You could attack using your kabuki hair, like the final boss from Revenge of Shinobi.

Dude I spent hours just making simple traps to kill the tiny men. Also fed them to the alligators. I wish I could still play this. I don’t know where to begin a search.

Joust arcade. Some of the most impressive physics. 3 switches (not counting start), left, right, and flap. You would think this would be too simple to be enjoyable, but the physics make it one of the craziest fun games for me. If you try to play Joust, try to get 100k points and at this point you will have a good idea of the game. 100k isn't a super high score, but it requires you to get past the basic noob stage and as a result you understand the physics.

Marble Madness and its ilk had some nice rolling physics, considering the time they were made in.

Does 1999/2000 count as retro? Because Asheron's Call was pretty ground breaking when it came to physics. How many modern day MMORPGs actually let you dodge arrows and spells by moving out of the way?

Exile
>Exile contains a physics model with gravity, inertia, mass, explosions, shockwaves, water, earth, wind, and fire. The game engine simulates all three of Newton's laws of motion, with many puzzles and gameplay elements emerging from a few physical principles. For example, the player may experience difficulty when attempting to lift a heavy boulder across a windy shaft with a jet pack, or of trying to keep a glass of water from spilling while being pushed around by a pestering bird.

>> No.5270416

I was stunned when I played Exile because it felt more like a modern indie game than something from 1988.

Obligatory "Super Mario Bros." post. Seriously, the controls are still incredible because of how movement is programmed in the game. On the other hand, compared to other examples in this thread it doesn't show that many interesting physics situations outside of that but then again, it was made several years earlier.

Umihara games
Uniracers
Desert/Jungle/Soviet/Nuclear strike games.
Micromachines
Road Rash

Not sure if there is even a point mentioning psx games since that was the gen where physics became good enough but here few notable examples.
Ace combat 3
Colin, Toca series
Wipeout
Rollcage
Sled Storm
Trasher: Skate and destroy (First ragdoll on psx)
Colony Wars series
Driver
Destruciton derby raw
Gran Turismo
Ball breakers

It's a Hal game, much like eggerland; both games are wholly owned Hal IPs. They'd be considered third party characters. As for why he isn't in smash, mostly three reasons. One because Hal hasn't touched smash since melee. Second reason is because Sakurai chooses who he wants. Third reason is that Sakurai doesn't like Hal, he left on terms that he didn't like where he worked and commented he didn't believe their game philosophy would be sustainable (making sequels). Ironic that he's become a whore for smash just for that big paycheck and royalties he gets for each sequel that seems progressively works while Hal hasn't failed creating good kirby sequels
