I want to tell a little story about the bike in purple rain. It is a Honda CB750 was made by Tom Summers aka Lowrider Tommy. There was either 2 or 3 bikes made for the show. The main bike that was in closeups and promotional things had 24k gold plated valve covers and various parts on it. Tommy said that the other bikes (I think there were 2) were just brass plated in an effort to save money. I think they were stunt bikes and also used in scenes where you couldn't tell the difference. He said those brass heads were a real pain in the ass because they would tarnish quickly and you would have to polish them. On parts that don't get hot, you can clearcoat, but engine parts of a running bike obviously get too hot for clear coat.

Unlike the Purple Rain bike, he usually had a very distinct "Digger" style bike. Pic related is one of his show bikes. In real life they are really impressive, tons of small details and very clean fabrication. This was before cnc blocks of billet for bike parts was a thing, so the fabrication is really impressive.

If you were to combine the fame of every pop star in the past 10 years, you would only be at about 10% of Michael's popularity at his peak. He was a strange guy, but there's no denying he was a superstar.

According to Israeli journalist Tal Perry, Jackson forced an entire shopping mall in Tel Aviv to open just for him. Since it was the evening of Rosh Hashana, the “Dizengoff Center” mall in Tel Aviv was closed, but Jackson really wanted to buy records, books and to play video games, so the Israeli producers made some phone calls, and the mall was opened for him. Apparently, Jackson ordered half of the furniture in his presidential suite to be removed in order to make room for all the toys he purchased. He was 34 at the time.

Think about this, a Jewish mall opened on one of their high holy holidays so he could buy things. That's pretty unusual.

Nobody on /vr/ discusses so heavily about a game without starting to shitpost in between, that's how you know what's up

>>5265730
He was godlike, which in response alienated him from everything around him. Look at his music videos from the 80s (when he still was black) and then compare them to the vids in the 90s. He has a huge statue with people praying to him, defeats agyptian gods and sleeps with their wives, vocals the voice of all minorities with "they don't really care about us". He was like a human turned into media... Just like Bart Simpson... And then he diddled Mc Colin Culkin and his pet monkey and started drinking Jesus juice.
In 300 years he will be seen as the Mozart or Bach of the 20th century with Elvis presley, the Beatles and such.
It's crazy to think how it is shifting towards nobody knowing him and how many times that has happened (and will happen)... Even gods get forgotten

This hasn't been the first time someone was asking if he really was so famous, that is the same shit as when people only know that Elvis was abducted by aliens and died on a toilet. Of course they will know the name Jackson, but the global impact and the resonance will be lost from year to year more, or will even shift into a different point of view all together (eg he wasn't that famous or great). Look at the shit discussed nowadays on this board and compare it to a few years ago, it's the perfect allegory for switching generations and information being morphed through "word to mouth". The people that have lived in a certain decade are the only professionals off that time frame, nobody knows that time better than the ppl who experienced it. And with each year that information gets lost (through age, forgetting, desinterest, death).
It is just crazy that there is no real way of capsuling a moment in time for the ages without missing something or interpreting it wrong.

Another example would be the craze about tamagotchi that one year, that was the "pokemon go" of 90s and nobody can understand it if you weren't part of it, it's just so frickin stupid if you hear it nowadays but was almost mesmerizing while it happend and can't be fully reproduced in a way that gives it credit due to the circumstances, it's just baffling that was entertaining at a time.

In twenty years they will say it has always been shit and people probably only bought it because of marketing or some shit, cause the mindset of having the library of Alexandria at your fingertip changes how the past is perceived.

I've actually been getting pretty into ZX Spectrum games lately, which is surprising considering I'm an American who always thought it was pretty shit. I still do, but people managed to get pretty creative with that shit. I was hoping "Black Mirror" name dropping it recently could spark some conversation, but no real luck.

Pic related, "Sentinel", a cool little ZX Spectrum game in which you scale mountains using robots to confront and absorb "sentinels" seeking to destroy you.
