Bumping with setup from November. Only thing that has changed is the right glass shelf, I needed more room for PSX games.

Old pic, consoles are now NES toploader, SNES Jr/101, PS1 slim, Genesis model 3, PC Engine with SSSD3. Also recently used some gift cards to finally get a bandridge 5 way manual scart switch, once it arrives I'll no longer have to swap cords.

Since this always confuses someone, the set is made to be played with a "Big Joe" beanbag chair so that's why it's so low to the ground. Made it by converting a shitty walmart cube shelf into this using shelving wood. Also, I know the speakers are silly being that oversized, but I listen to music on there too. There are smaller speakers behind the foam pieces next to the monitor if I choose them.

How's the SSDS3 video quality? Did you install the RGB bypass?

>> No.5260514

Default was OK on the BVM, the quality may have been good enough if you were using composite. In RGB on the PVM, I did get some waviness going diagonally over the picture. To be fair, this may have been caused by the AV mod that was in the console when I bought it. I removed the AV mod and I did put the fu-rgb board in it. Video quality definitely improved and the diagonal interference was gone. I figured for like $7 or 8 it was worth doing the fu-rgb.

I would imagine if you were using an upscaler to a modern display you would definitely want to install the mod.

In all honesty, the video isn't horrible in stock form, but if you're paying $300 for the SSDS3 and using PVM/BVM it just makes sense to do the mod.

Forgot to add, there is an audio hum in the speakers, even using high quality scart cables so the FBX audio amp is in my near future once it arrives in the mail. You could live with the audio, it's not really noticeable in game, but it's a bit annoying on the menus. I'd say the fu-rgb is a yes, fbx audio amp is a maybe if it bothers you, but not 100% needed.

>SSDS3
Not that guy, but the SSDS3 is the worst purchase I have ever made. I bought mine before anyone knew of the video issues. I have never met a single person that can show proof theirs isn't totally fucked on solid colors. I went back to my TurboED and TG16+CD with rgb mod almost the same day I got the SSDS3. The person I sold to via Ebay asked for a return but I explained the issue in the description and denied the return, then found out every one does it even with substantial mods.

Nice info. I'll keep it in mind, as I was planning on buying one, but they are out of stock at the moment.

Here's my retro nook, I need to get an N64 again, an Everdrive64 and maybe a better CRT. I mostly play modern games but the past few years have made me want to go back to the past.
