Playing this and it's pretty great, is there any other pac-man games I should try?

>> No.5258205

Pac-man Arrangement is really, really underrated.

>> No.5258206

I left that game in level 8 por something. It's good but I got bored.

Now I'm playing Adventures In Time. It's great, but It would be better if you could obtain lifes un the process. You can only save after 2 or 3 levels, so you have to beat them with one life or you lose.

came here to post this, World 1 is easily the best Pac-Man platformer, or at least his best 3D outing

I hope someday someone leaks the alpha/pre-alpha of Ghost Zone and people can dissect it to see what else was planned

I've been playing Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness recently. Solid puzzle/maze gameplay, very comfy environments/art, and fantastic music. The collectathon-ness can be a bit annoying, but it's overall quite good.
Apologies for the fucked-up screenshot, it wasn't stretched like that when playing in the actual emulator.

Pac-Man in general is pretty underrated when it comes to games.
He has some solid games overall like Attack Arrangement, the world games, Rally, Adventures in Time, Ms. Pac Maze Madness, in-Time, etc... yet they barely get any attention.
Kinda sucks, I'll love to see a new Pac-Man game that isn't just wankery of the first arcade game.

Just a head's up, the fruits in the vehicle stages (the snowmobile / boat) that you need to get for 100% completion don't always spawn correctly, making you need to play those stages over and over again to get them all. Savestates nullify this problem, although repeated random tweaks in your movement are required to get the fruits to cooperate. On console, however, you're fucked. The only way is to replay over and over. It's absolutely infuriating.

Jr. Pac-Man was ported to the C64, PC, and Atari 2600. There have been no reissues/remakes from the 90s onward possibly because of licensing issues. Bally-Midway owned the rights to the game and the company split apart into several pieces in the 90s, so it's not clear who even owns it now.

They're not terribly rare. You just see a whole lot more of Ms Pac-man because it's the only one of the Baily-Midway games Namco has the rights to. Jr and Baby Pac-man are both lost in legal limbo and you've probably never ever heard of Pac-man Plus.

>> No.5262749

how was that jr. pac, pac-baby and professor pac appeared in later games like world or maze madness.

>> No.5262756

>>5262749
I might be wrong, but even though the games were unlicensed they were still part of the IP, so Namco was allowed to seize the assets and do what they like with them afterwards.

>> No.5262985

>>5262749
Ms Pac-man and Baby Pac both appear in the 80s cartoon, so Namco must have had rights to any characters Midway made for the franchise even if the games themselves are in a grey area.

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures is unironically one of my favorite 16-bit games, especially the SNES version. Although there are times when Pac-Man won't cooperate with you, it's offset by having loads of charm. Just expect a weird little adventure game rather than traditional Pac-Man gameplay.

I played Pac-Land a few times, and it seems like an enjoyable arcade platformer.

Pac-Attack is pretty decent from what i've played, too, but I wouldn't play it over Columns, Tetris Attack, or a Puyo Puyo game.

>> No.5263072

The rights to Ms. Pac-Man went to Namco, Bally retained the rights to other sequels like Jr. Pac-Man and Professor Pac-Man which is why they disappeared into a legal black hole since Bally was split up in the 90s.

More likely just because Ms. Pac-Man was the biggest selling arcade game of its era and they made a huge number of them.

>> No.5263094

All of Bally (and Williams)'s video game rights are under Midway, which is now under Warner.
They probably can't release it because they used the "Pac-" name without permission and now don't have a legal leg to stand on.

Ms. Pac-Man was also sort of given the snub and for some inexplicable reason, NM included the Japanese arcade game which had remixed music and sounded very "off". It was also emulated and not recoded from scratch.

Ms. Pac-Man has some collision detection bugs where sometimes you sail right through the ghosts. I've played the arcade game once or twice before and encountered it. I suppose as bugs go, it's one of the more helpful ones but probably not very welcome to arcade operators who wanted you to keep feeding in the quarters.

In fact once I played an arcade machine at a flea market and despite my lack of practice I made it all the way to the banana screen on one go. I know too that there was about 1-2 times when I should have died and got saved by that collision bug. They had a Donkey Kong there too but I didn't want to play it because I was intimidated and heard that the arcade game was pretty difficult.

Here's the NES version. It's pretty mediocre and they couldn't even be bothered to get the colors of the mazes correct. Tengen didn't even bother bringing it over there, they just made a new Ms. Pac-Man from scratch.

The Tengen version blows it away with the only flaw being that it takes a few liberties with the sfx and music while the Namco version mostly copypastes them from the arcade game.
