I died the first time around because I was too paranoid to take teleporters and didn't get the SSG, but after that it didn't feel too hard. Nothing else really comes to mind except for the red key room, it felt out of place compared to the rest of the map. Overall, I appreciate the usage of city textures.

Well my go to favorites would be te13-Booster, Combined Arms, and La-Tailor Girl, with Booster and especially La-Tailor Girl having some fairly unique weapons. For fun to use you could always try the three Pillowblaster mods: Russian Overkill, Trailblazer, and Guncaster, though I personally favor Trailblazer out of those three, although they are all mostly overpowered. For something unique and different you could always check out Doom RL Arsenal (DRLA), Hideous Deconstructor, and Bullete-Eye.

If you mean like reskins or tweaks to how the original Doom weapons work, you could try Smooth Doom, which is just better animations for all the default weapons, Eriguns 1 I think is the one with reskins of the Doom weapons into something a little more "modern," and Project Babel keeps most of the original Doom weapons but changes how some of them function and changes how the enemies work. If you mean wads that make the game use primarily real world weapons, I think Hideous Deconstructor does that, but HD does have a learning curve to it. Things like The Trooper and ww-Terror also replace most of the weapons with more modern/realstic guns and are easier to get use to that HD right out the gate. There is also r6w and Real Guns Hardcore (RGH) that use guns from Rainbow Six and I think Call of Duty, but I haven't tested them out enough for me to recommend them.

Seems to have become the ZDoom end of the community's Pavlov's bell, gets a bit dull when you're indifferent to it.

However it does give an interesting perspective on the community at times, like when Bologna or whatever it's called came out to criticism of being a superfluous mod behind Universal Gibs then a week later zscript Nashgore is the second coming.

It's a fascinating modding community to observe from the relative outside these days.

Mostly because vanilla Doom doesn't define blood colors, custom blood became a thing with the sourceports and modding. You need an external patch to apply the blood color alterations. You know why those guys at Doomworld are putting substantial effort into actually manually editing the sprites, in spite of already having been run through their upsizing process, right? Because without an actual person to use their judgement and working it over, there'll be numerous glaring problems which will ruin the graphic and make it look awful.
You need a human element and some manual labor at some point, or it won't work, there is no free lunch with shit like this. These algorithms help a lot and make things much faster and easier (in fact, this is probably the only plausible way you can actually consistently turn a low res sprite into a high res one), but just looking at them, they clearly still need help.

To put it this way, a food processor is a great tool to have in your kitchen, it makes a lot of things VERY easy, but at the end of the day, you still have to actually cook your food.

I'll b honest I thought ion maiden was kinda boring.
enemy variety was nonexistent, gunplay was just dull and the gameplay felt very run of the mill, all just hitscan stuff. the only thing it had going for it was the high detail spritework which was nice, the rolling bombs (neat concept) and the scenery. pretty much everything to do with the visuals in the game are top notch, everything else is highly unmemorable. also the maps were way large in scale, busy and overdetailed to be revisitable.

There's also the fact that every enemy and entity has eight directions for animation and movement, the AI isn't sophisticated for handling exploration worth a damn in a realistic fashion with those directions that don't invoke awkward factors. A retool of the classic Immoral Conduct.
I wanted to replace the regular infantry rifle with something more real looking, and I wanted that rifle to be something very distinctly performing from the carbine.

So the idea I settle on is a battle rifle of some sort, but what kind? There's SOME centered battle rifle sprites, but not a lot, not many good ones, and none with frames I could easily use to make a bayonet lunge with.
Then I find some old sprites for an M1 rifle, and it dawns on me that on top of having suitable frames I could use to make the stabbing with, as well as reloading, it would fit pretty well in terms of balance.
It does far more damage per shot, can overpenetrate weaker enemies, and can be reloaded rather fast, but capacity is limited, and it takes 16 units of 'rifle ammunition' to put 8 rounds in the magazine (it keeps things simple).

It can fit in 'lorewise' as the UAC purchasing a bunch of old Italian surplus rifles, rechambered in 7.62mm NATO (this was a thing Italy did as said cartridge was declared NATO's new standard early in the Cold War). It's just a bunch of reserve stuff they ended up receiving in some deal for something else, didn't quite know what to do with, and mostly just stored, but which you the player can put to good use.
It's also fucking satisfying when the last shot ejects the clip, and it goes dinging against the walls or on the floor.

Fucking so? The SNES struggled horrenduously with actually running Doom, and required the SuperFX chip to have a snowball's chance in hell, STILL requiring lots of concessions to work at all, such as the lack of floor/ceiling textures.

How does one use the blursphere in HD?
I know you need to not have any supernatural healing juice in you to make it not burn you, but what does it actually do?
Is it worth sacrificing megaspheres and potions?
Because having constant wound-healing health regen stacked inside you that heals aggravated damage is extremely helpful.

The voices and lines for the gay enemies was funny. But the "T'YAAH" yell for the kick is also ingrained in my brain now, sadly.

It makes enemies less able to notice you like a normal blursphere would, but also occasionally triggers mass infighting or sets enemies on fire. It stops bleeding better than soulspheres, but doesn't cure wounds and will eventually cause aggravated damage as well as driving you insane. It's powerful, but dangerous to use for longer playthroughs. Eventually, you can't even drop it anymore and the only way to get rid of it is to find spiritual armor.

Dehacked rain test. I plan to do nothing with this, but it was an idea I had, and it looks okay (should have a better rain sprite, or some variants). Even got little puffs hitting the ground. Shame I can't change them to splashes without changing all the guns to super soakers.

Definitely our best compilation. 200 had more my_first_map.wads, which is fine. 100 is just fucking hard so we didn't get many submissions. What's there is pretty decent considering the time restrictions though.

Is it just me or is Strife frustratingly difficult? Every fucking enemy is either a hitscanner or a rocket launcher. And typically they're placed either in an open area without enough cover, or surrounding you in a tight corridor so if you try to avoid one you run into another.
The art is awesome though.
