>added hundreds of games to my retropie
>end up just playing atari 2600 games, mainly berzerk and yars' revenge

>> No.5235649

What's wrong with that? They're good games.

>> No.5235678

The problem with the whole rpi thing is that you're still stuck in the 1999 emulation context of a generic machine that plays everything. It's neat for a while but it loses the legitimacy and genuineness of playing on native hardware.

That's the way it goes.
We perceive a few games as not enough.
Then at some point it always becomes too many.

Not that guy, but this guy is right. I have countless ISOs, roms and DOS games downloaded, but in the process of preserving retro games I've turned into a hoarder. A hoarder who who launches a game, spends up to 10 minutes with it and goes back to the main menu of RetroArch after a while. Face it, having access to everything there is spoiled us. It made us numb to the games, since there are so many to choose from we don't appreciate them anymore, and having a vast library to choose from, we don't keep focus on that one title we want to play anymore. We just want more and more. And this is what kills retro gaming in general. You're just doing it to collect games, not to play them.

I never pushed myself to beat SMW after all of these years until I got an actual cartridge.

This is a personal problem, you guys need to exercise more self control. I have a curated collection of about 2100 games across a wide variety of consoles and operating systems, but play them one at a time to completion (with the exception of score attack games)

>> No.5237752

Having access to full romsets seems to lead many people into overchoice psychosis. It can legit mess up your mind.

Try to organize your games by preference or something like that.

OP here. Maybe I should make a custom category in emulationstation containing my favorite games. Thanks for the suggestion.

>> No.5237762

>>5237754
It works. I made a folder structure 3 levels deep as follows:
> favorite games
>> fun games
>>> other games

If I can pick something I want to play, I go up a level. And I'll shift games around sometimes. Works really well.

It is almost unimaginable to me that a living person could be dumb enough to think this.

I don't be to be the type of guy that goes around accusing people of being a troll when really they're just stupid, but surely this can't be a legit person, that if something is free it has no value?

>> No.5237796

>>5237725
Speak for yourself dumbass, if you were less retarded you'd notice the OP is having the EXACT OPPOSITE problem as you - he sticks with the same games. Just because you never liked videogames and were just here for the memes and youtube drama don't think everyone is.

Not that guy, but I think the idea behind what he said is that when you have access to everything in large amount, it loses its value. Since you can play any NES, Genesis, SNES rom, any Saturn, PS1, Dreamcast ISO is at your fingertips, you don't appreciate what you have anymore. There's so many games that you can play that you end up becoming that sloth from that one webm where he can't even pick up the food.

okay you stupid fuck, try this next time:
>take a dice like a d20 (to cover all games in the list)
>roll it
>pick the game in the list with that number
>play it for exactly 1 hour
>give it a rating afterwards

If you are enjoying the game you will play longer than an hour, if not you don't feel like an utter fuck cause you can't into videogamez
