Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.

its good if youre into the rpg setting. so finding your way around and creating your own quest through your choices. you get a lot of choices and the game is basically for those that enjoy talking and speech. it has really good world building, every area feels important and is memorably. every character is memorable. it really feels like a game full of life.
however the rpg elements and combat really ruin the game. i dont think it benefits the game at all. for a game thats arguably nuanced in its story having the combat segments really cheapens everything about planescape. and its so atrocious and jarring it almost kills playing the game totally. its sort of hard to explain but its like shitting on whatever the game was trying to build by building this entire bland rpg game that doesnt flow well with the games ambitions at all.

I just installed it on PCem so will be playing it for the first time too.

Yeah the enhanced edition uses fan mods but destroys the aesthetic with the up scaling XD Will have to try of hardware alongside the fan mods.

Yes. People shit on combat (it's real time with pause and it could be faster), but it's not much worse than let's say Chrono Trigger, which is considered perfect game by many.

There are better places to ask if this game is good or not. You got ok replies so far but look at that faggot who posted the Beamdog copypasta and numerous other comments from various posters saying it's the most overrated game of all time or something. He's asking that question because it's like going to /v/ and asking if Game X is good, most replies will say it's shit without delving any further than that.

You could've checked gameplay videos, some reviews, looked at screenshots, and compared all of those to games you've played before, or even just gone to reddit, or some Planescape Torment message board, instead you came here, where people don't really even like video games and just come here to whine. Even worse, people spread misinformation about X game just to instigate arguments. There are numerous other places, better places to find information about a game to realize it's good or not. If you don't realize this, you are either very young, or dumb as a fucking brick.

That's funny considering Torment is renown for its flexible dialogue options.

>> No.5237809

>>5237784
I wouldn't say they are flexible, it's just that the most important and interesting ones are hidden behind stat choices that the average crpg DND player wouldn't make on his own. The writing is ok, in a Vertigo Comics kinda way... I'd describe it as sandman tier. There's no way anyone could defend that combat, though. All in all, it's worth playing, but Icewind dale is still the most based infinity engine game.

If you don't like reading in your video games, you won't like it. If you've played baulders gate, fallout 1/2 its gameplay is like that, and the story is good. They do the whole adventure thing well, its part of why people like it. Buckle up though, the game takes a while to finish. You'll know almost immediately if you like these sorts of games just by looking at some gameplay of it, and its one of the good ones if you do.

>> No.5238665

>>5238372
Because gameplay means more than just making dialogue choices and fighting things
It's just that most RPGs have severely restricted gameplay where only these two elements are present, aside from walking

>> No.5239254

yes
also have morte tank all of your enemies and use Litany of Curses

>> No.5239272

Torment is a game I'm really torn on. I love the other Infinity Engine games so I feel like I'm -supposed- to love it, but I can't honestly say that I do. The interface is terrible: worse than both Baldur's Gate and the Fallout games before it. Compared to the tactical RTwP battles of IWD/BG, combat in Torment is a barely-coherent mess that generally throws much larger numbers of pathetically weak enemies for you to shred through. The parts of the game that people like the most are the ones that least involve actual gameplay. The setting, characters, and items are certainly unique. They alone make Torment at the very least worth trying, but the gameplay can't hold up at all against its contemporaries.
