Tried playing the game for the first time since I was a kid after reading this thread. Hippo tails are the worst part. Died a couple times on the Ostrich, but really all you need to do is wait until the last minute with the jumps. The hippo tails are really hard to know when you'll catch onto them. Luckily if you just jump quickly from one to the next it almost always works.
