Suikoden II
http://suikoden.wikia.com/wiki/Old_Save_Bonus

Tomba 2
>Tomba 2 had several quests that could only be accessed by completing the first Tomba to a certain point and transferring the data over.

Legend of Mana
>In Legend of Mana, one of the early quests introduces the player to the mechanics of catching monster eggs, which would eventually hatch into friendly monsters the player could bring along. The starter monster would always be a Rabite (a small, relatively weak rabbit monster) unless the player happened to have a save from Final Fantasy VIII on their memory card - in which case the monster would be a Chocobo. Also, having a SaGa Frontier 2 save file allowed you to find a secret sword in Bone Fortress, and having a Chocobo Racing save net you a ring accessory from Polpota Harbor.

Arc the Lad
>The various Arc the Lad sequels have bonus content and characters that can only be unlocked by save files from the previous games.

Baldur's Gate II let you import your character from the first game, as well as keep certain items.

Also Suikoden III (non /vr/) is probably the only case of a PS2 game reading PS1 game saves (e.g. Suikoden II, which in turn could involve Suikoden)

Monster Rancher 2 allows you to generate monsters based on Monster Rancher 1 save data in a process they refer to as "slating." Sometimes the monster that gets made is a direct copy of the MR1 monster's breed/sub breed with better stats, sometimes it's whatever the analogous monster in MR2 is, and in some cases (Slating utilizing a Magic from MR1, for example) you get rare breeds or ones with ??? sub breed.

I'm amazed nobody's brought this up yet, but the Japanese Dance Dance Revolution PSX games had save files that interacted with each other. The biggest example is 5th mix, which had a contest to submit new charts for any song in the series. The winners all had their charts included in 5th mix, but you couldn't play the vast majority of them. Instead, you had to save the data to your memory card, then boot up the game the song originally appeared in to play it with the new chart.

desu I was thinking of the 2002-3 era. Every system by then had some way of getting it done.

Actually can you move saves on newer systems? I know you can do it on Switch.

Just adding that the arc the lad series is awesome for between game stuff.
Also Armored core series I thought let you transfer your saves to the other games or something... I should bust that series out again and find out

man at one point I had gotten all the psx ddr games and had dance pads. I used to love that games carried stuff over. Good to see it mentioned here. Damn I should load those up in an emu and mess with them for a bit.

You have been able to do it since PS3/360 era.

Required a special memory card for the 360, but it works with any usb device now.

If you had a friend who owned the game, you could just let him copy his save onto your memory card. I had a friend do that during the Gamecube era to get the Tails chao from Phantasy Star Online.

Because of the batteries I eventually downloaded a vmu emulator for the dc. Burned it and now I just pop that in and load the vmu item of choice and enjoy on the big screen. which is nice since I have an older 52inch.. so doing it that way it did breath new life into the dreamcast for me in regards to vmu

Not all games support it, though, some jap games tie your saves to your HDD key. Team ninja games come to mind.

i've been told by people that developed psx software that a nice addition they'd put into games to detect piracy and cheating was to nuke your memory cards. detecting the modchip and shit like action replay was supposedly incredibly trivial. at some undefined point in the game's code, it'll check the system and start nuking your cards.

Actual source instead of lies? Until you provide source, the truth is the opposite. Nobody detected shit outside of very few outlier cases (Spyro Year of the Dragon comes to mind) so let's hear it, come on, anon. Are you a piece of fearmongering shit or are you legit, which is it?

YES SIR, I'll just dig up my private conversations I've had with psx programmers and post them on 4chan for you talentless nobodies to read. TOP FUCKING KEK. you must be on some next level of retardation? amazing. and no, you won't get a thing. these protections exist and i'm not going to tell you what games they're in or who made them or worked on them. you should consider suicide for even dreaming that I would be a SNITCH and drop names. my sides. hilarious.
>Nobody detected shit outside of very few outlier cases (Spyro Year of the Dragon comes to mind)
well, you know then that it isn't bullshit. there's more than a few games that have these protections. dozens of them.. maybe more. people really didn't look very hard, even the cracking groups of the time for psx failed to find them. what chance do you computer illiterate plebs have?
> pro-tip: 0 chance
>> are you legit
I'm as serious as ebola about what I wrote, but you intellectual featherweights won't be getting any more information from me. you can ALL take turns licking the sweat off of my balls.

Jak X is also notorious for memory card issues. Any time you try to save your game, you're playing Russian Roulette with all the data on your card.

Trails in The Sky has some bonus for carrying over data from the past game, not to mention it makes references to sidequests if you did them. This applies to all the Kiseki games (Sky, Zero/Ao, CS1/2, CS3/4).

There's an obscure bug in sonic 3 that erases all the saves on your genesis cartridge.

The sonic jam port, being faithful to the original, will wipe all the saves in your saturn's internal memory.

why are your postings my-dad-works-at-nintendo-tier?
antimod games were cracked soon after release, modchips were made into stealth-chips soon after antimod hit the games.
same with libcrypt being cracked soon after appearing.
