They’re both dogshit baby-tier RPGs. Go play FF7 instead and be an actual real man.

It truly is amazing how many people on this board have yet to realize that everything Nintendo does, Sega does better. They aren’t intellectuals like myself, I suppose. *chuckles softly*
Why are Nintentoddlers allowed on this board? They're a fucking embarrassment and make real mature gamers like me look bad for even occupying the same board as me.

>b-but Nintendo excelled at making platformers!

Bullshit, Nintendo didn't excel at one god damn thing. I take that back, actually. They excel at one thing. Nintendo excels at being for bing bing wahoo babies and manchildren who run away when they see blood because they are immature babyfags and can't handle a deep, dark, serious game like I can. Sega and Sony had games that reflected the inner darkness of my soul from having two Christmases since my parents were divorced, while Nintendo did kiddy shit because nintentoddlers are fucking babies who never had to rough it in high school like real people, like me, who had to deal with bullies and preppy douchebags since they didn't understand my real power...

I respectfully disagree with your opinion. While FF6's story starts off strong, it becomes a victim of its own success, with so many characters flooding the screen makes it difficult for any one of them to experience anything more than the most base development, so by the World of the Ruin the story is a disjointed clusterfuck where everyone gets a side-story and no more development than that.

Chrono Trigger's story is certainly simpler, but I think that is what actually makes it work better for a video game. A video game story will never be able to compete with a novel or multi-season television show, nor should it, because a video game is a game first and a narrative second. The smaller number of characters and simpler story allows for each character to shine in their own way without distracting from the flow of the gameplay. And the gameplay is indisputably superior.

My own personal opinion, however, is that Seiken Densetsu 3 was better than either of them, in terms of graphics, narrative, and gameplay. Not to be a hipster/weeb, but the modular nature of the narrative means that whichever three characters YOU pick are the ones that shine throughout the game, especially when you start class-changing them.

and I'm not that guy, but Ayla is definitely the best-babe. Good Nordic stock, pure unmixed genes, strong muscles for raising strong children, and sharper than she lets on. I'll take her over the SJW and the nerd.

It is a testament to the tasteless autism of most "retro gamers" that this is even a debate at all.

FFVI is:
Longer with more content to experience, CT is just a quick romp thru a handful of themed levels
Nonlinear for more replay value, CT's newgame+ is pathetic
Harder; survival requires some minimal strategy, CT is just spam your best tech and heal afterwards
Cool exciting monster design, CT's creatures are bland and uninspired
Music that is full and rich, not a-melodic farts like CT has

CT is the Mario Kart of RPGs; a game for people who don't play racing games.
No wonder it's Reddit's favorite videogame!

I love them both equally more or less. Chrono Trigger is better polished and has perfect pacing, but Final Fantasy VI has way more secrets and stuff to do. The battles in CT are fun, but FFVI gives you a lot more options and interesting abilities like Gau's Rages, and has cool weird stuff like turning your characters into Imps and giving them special Imp equipment. If you put a gun to my head right now and asked me to choose, I'd say FFVI, but my answer varies depending on the day. I've probably replayed CT more.

>> No.5215510

FF6 is in many ways the better experience, but the original release is riddled with gameplay flaws and bugs that ruin it for me. The re-releases have their own issues. But on top of that, FF6 also has some story aspects that are a bit too zany for my taste. CT is zany too, but it does a better job at owning it. It might be a romp, but it’s a more concise experience.

>Reddit’s favorite game is Shadow of the Colossus.
SotC is actually one of gaming's greats, despite lowish framerate and being a bit of a "cinematic experience".
To be fair, the most Reddit game is probably Portal.

Not true. We all knew that cheesy shit existed like Vanish/X-Zone existed. We didn’t know the full extent of the bugs, but a keen eye would notice things like the evade bug. It’s true that I didn’t really give a shit the first time around, but replay value is a factor in this discussion I think.

I never minded the bugs in FFVI much, but it's fairly easy to run into some of them by accident. Sketching invisible enemies triggers the sketch bug, so I discovered it by sketching Intangir who starts the battle invisible. That turned the cursor into Sabin's head, which was a strange sight.

I also found a minor bug I almost never saw posted back in the day. If you rearrange your party members a certain way in Cyan's dream during the Magitek armor sequence, you can keep the Magitek armor sprite afterwards. Harmless bug, but neat.

The really fun stuff like getting a Moogle to join instead of Celes would be hard to find on your own I think. This is a good read on some crazy stuff you can do with the game: https://lparchive.org/Breaking-Final-Fantasy-VI/

I think that FFVI is the better jrpg but CT is made in such a way that it is no surprise the game is more popular: visual combat, smaller rooster of protagonists, more variety in levels.
But FFVI has more freedom, more options to choose (let alone WoR).

>> No.5215708

I never really could enjoy a JRPG with a giant list of playable characters. Dragon Quest 4 and Chrono Trigger had just enough where switching around your party isn't a chore. FF6 had too many characters to really care about. I get it's just trying to have each class in FF5 into a character but having to deal with all of them and even having to split them up just made me care less and less about some of them.

For a single play through, FFVI has more to offer. CT's story and combat is so polished and new game + gives greater replayability so it is a better overall package.

FF6 is the quintessential great JRPG, with a huge amount of content, non-linear second half, secret characters etc.

CT is a great story experience with a well realized time travel gimmick, but it just happens to be an RPG. It's a masterpiece, but it doesn't represent the genre fully.

I 100% agree with this.

When I was young, my consoles were NES->N64->PSX->PS2,etc.. so I skipped over all the SNES games. I've started playing a lot of the major ones over the past few years.

I beat Chrono Trigger and FF6 last year. I'm in the middle of Seiken Densetsu 3 right now, and it's already a much better game than either of those IMO. I don't have nostalgia glasses for any of them to fog my vision either.

>> No.5217831

CT is kinda short and linear. FF6 is better as a RPG. I think grinding is an important element for old RPGs.
