I just bought an original cartridge of chrono trigger, I've never played it before. What should I expect?

I love rpgs, Final Fantasy is one of my most favorite franchises, and I've heard that chrono trigger is "the best final fantasy game" and I don't like emulating games, unless it's like game boy games, I don't know why.

I don't understand those who hate on this game also love dungeon crawlers with uninspired corridor mazes and endless random battles that you have no control over that always appear to annoy the shit out of you.

I have yet to find a JRPG that is better than CT gameplay-wise. Random battles is the laziest and most tedious mechanic I have had to deal with in a game, especially with those slow transition animations and illogical occurences. When I don't see an enemy I expect there to be none.

So did I, in Japanese. Though I have finished the game before, I am not sure if I know it well enough to get through it without being able to read Japanese, but I'll see how it goes.
