You can find them with games on eBay for about 50-75; I don't remember how much I paid for mine. A lot of them have failing capacitors for the screen display, though, so it might have to get changed if you get a used one.

Emulators aren't all bad. But nothing beats lookin for games in the wild, cleaning that dirty ass cart you found for $0.99 and playing it all night long.

My SNES collection, the collection I pride myself on the most. I've been collecting for the SNES for awhile now. I didn't bother including about 10-some random shit games or any of the duplicates I ended up acquiring. I'm trying to get a copy of Super Metriod sometime soon, though. I've been dying to play some of the older Metroid titles.
(would anyone believe me if i told them I got the FFIII with the box and the poster for 30 bucks?)

I am currently playing through my CBFD. A game I could never get to emulate right.

It isn't just that though, playing on the n64 gamepad, playing on any system, and holding the cartridge, cleaning it out with whatever method you prefer, finding a corroded cart and polishing the pins... There is something very tactile and satisfying about it.

The NES games my brother and I had on the other hand disappeared at some point in time. I think my cousins have my Sesame Street NES games. I look on FF7 PC very fondly because that's how I first played it. I did not have a console during the 32 bit era.

However, it is a very touchy game. Aside from numerous problems in getting it to even work, the sound is midi and will not sound right without proper plugins and codecs, and even with them its not as good as the playstation. The pre-rendered graphics are obviously pre-rendered and are locked in 240p resolution (standard SD TV and PS1 resolution). This means that they will always be pixelated and stretched on the PC, as you won't be playing the game in that low a resolution. The 3d models do support higher res and will look much better on PC. The in-battle graphics on PC are actually very good. But those backgrounds man.

Its just a rarer version of the game and a pretty cool port. But the only reason to play it over the PS1 is if you want to take advantage of some mods. Yes, they are our there.

Not sure what I expect tbh. Doom64 was radically different from the PC version. Quake 64 also had some entirely new levels.

>> No.524148

did a google search for you:

Of the three console ports, Hexen 64 might be considered the most accurate PC translation, and boasts the best graphic effects and the fastest and most fluid frame rate of the three home ports. Texture filtering effects, as common with Nintendo 64 titles, is used to prevent pixelation on monsters and wall textures when seen up close. The N64 port also has four-player cooperative and deathmatch options (split screen). However, if multiplayer is used, the game is forced into a low detail mode, lowering the overall graphics quality.

This port doesn't feature the full-motion video cut scenes added to the PlayStation and Saturn ports or the remixed PC CD-ROM version music, and instead contains the PC floppy-disc version's midi-based background music and new narrative introductions to every level which are displayed on the loading screens to tell the game's plot.

>> No.524165

>>524134
Well, lets compare it to the CD version of Hexen, out of the box, no mods or improvements of any kind.

N64 has
-way worse music, the CD soundtrack to Hexen is amazing. However, it compares favorably to the standard hexen music, if you played it from floppy. Winner: PC.

-smoothed textures. Default Hexen is a very pixelated game. Yes, the N64 is blurry, but the picture is still way clearer. I'd give this to the N64.

Controls: Hexen had Doom controls, meaning its extremely hard to strafe. N64 wins on this count, too, with its analog controls and easy strafing.

Levels: It feels like the same game, but there are minor differences in a few puzzles. Everything seems to be there, no missing levels, so the minor changes seem very odd. Basically the same game.

One big downside for the N64, though: save games take up 95% of a memory Pak.

Now, with modern improvements to the Doom engine, the PC version is a better game. But in terms of what was available back in the 90s, the N64 version is my favorite by far.

I haven't posted my collection because spreading them all out would be a pain, but are you saying that my collection is sub par or are you saying that if I took a pic of it for this thread I should select the cream of the crop for my pic rather than every single one?

I only collect games I like or have fun playing. I don't see the need in having a legion of sports games from 30 years ago or shovelware. My collection is actually a little bigger, but I'm missing the cases for most of my PS1 games and all my 64 boxes are hiding somewhere. Nothing here all that noteworthy other than Harvest Moon which is pretty sought after (and my favorite game by extension).

I don't own that many games because usually my parents would rent them for me. I'd say I've pretty much enjoyed most of the 64's American releases that way. I do wish I owned Mystical Ninja.

I'm also really looking to expand on my Snes collection. I apologize for the horrible JT marks on those NES games, I was given those for free so I couldn't complain.

it's an advertisement tape. I didn't know what it was so i picked it up from a garage sale. It's pretty hilarious but not worth anything really

Your collection is pretty good, but not too focused. Not that that is a bad thing.

I'm kind of doing that for the Sega-CD, which has a medium sized library of mostly worthless games.

For something like the NES, Genesis, SNES, or Playstation, though? Congratulations to someone who has all the games, but that's just silly.

No need to wonder if it's boring or not, the cool thing about this thread is seeing some variety. So thanks for sharing!

(Sorry I don't even know what pictures are yours, I didn't write my comment directly refering to anyone)

*Two* remakes. The Pocket Pro eliminated a cartridge slot and shrunk the system to about the size of a Game Boy. Then they released another one with backlight.
