I'm currently in love with my Gameboy Color, but I don't have many games for it right now.

What should I look into getting?

R-Type DX

>> No.5195407

Haven't played a ton of the library but here's what I can recommend:
Mario Golf
Tetris DX
Metroid 2
Links Awakening

>> No.5195440

>>5195407
This plus:
Game & Watch Gallery 2 & 3
Harry Potter
Pokemon (Red/Blue/Yellow)
Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Pokemon Pinball
Survival Kids
Wario Land
Donkey Kong '94
Mega Man (3-5 are best)

>> No.5195441

Cheating a bit since they're OG gameboy games but here's my list, ignoring obvious things like Pokemanz

Metroid 2
Nemesis
Gradius: The Interstellar Assault

I've been playing a lot of Tetris on the computer but I want to be able to play on my Gameboy Color.

I prefer the original but you can only save on the DX version.

they are both good, Tetrix dx feels slightly faster when you clear a line

I just found out there is a Lufia game for GBC, so, try that. It might be garbage, though... Try it anyway and let me know.

This game is so close to being amazing... it just needs better ball physics! Anyone know of a rom hack along those lines?

It's got pretty awesome combat but the dungeons are randomly generated instead of the puzzle oriented dungeons from lufia 2.

I never got into these back in the day but coming back to them as an adult, holy shit these games are genius. In a lot (all?) of them you can seriously get into a state of flow that is honestly on the same level as Tetris.

guys kinda related but should legend of zelda be be glitching when playing in a clone system?

I just tried the pause glitch with the seashells & they don't seem to be showing up on the other screen?

also for some odd reason Link actually freak's out and his frames get glitch'd if I push the directional buttons together

I liked it a lot. It's like a refined MG2, where the backtracking is essentially eliminated. It's broken down into levels instead of a giant map locked behind key cards. If you like the classic Metal Gear games, you should find it enjoyable. The story isn't awful either. Bonus points for taking place at a repurposed Outer Heaven.

>> No.5200608

Dragon Quest III is a timeless masterpiece. Great music, nice sprite animation, snappy combat, a large-scale adventure, and writing that is both poignant and succinct.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages are perfections of the 2D Zelda style.

I like to play Dragon Quest Monsters when I can't sleep. They're comfy and grindy.

Wario Land III is a fun little puzzle platformer. It's easy, but I like to play it when I want to relax.

Metal Gear Solid is surprisingly great.

I've heard others claim that Wendy - Every Witch Way is a stealth masterpiece, but I've never played it myself.

You pretty much nee to use a map from online to play it, but barring that it's decent.

No, but Pinball has a complete disassembly so someone who wanted to change the physics could do so very easily, provided they already knew how to read/write in assembly.

>> No.5201330

>>5200621
I played it for the first time mid-2000s, didn't need a map or guide or anything. The fact that the game is divided into zones means you're not likely to accidentally backtrack. Enjoyed it a lot.

>> No.5201512

>>5200621
It does. It does a very good job at setting and maintaining a tone of tension and mild horror, which carries the game. The game is super linear (I don't even know why the other anon said you need a map, the only game more linear than 2 is Fusion) and pretty easy, but you should absolutely play it, preferably after playing Metroid 1 so you know just what kind of motherfuckers the Metroid species is and why the second game's plot is happening in the first place.

>> No.5201519

I didn't even know they were called Metroids until after I beat the game and started looking stuff up. I did know Samus is a girl from playing Smash.

Link's Awakening is better than the Oracle games without question. They're both worth playing if you've gone through Link's Awakening enough though.

>> No.5201721

>>5200621
It's great.
Doesn't need a map, if anyone had anything to complain about it's that it is too linear (even more so than Fusion).

I have a GB Boy Colour and Links Awakening DX has a weird glitch in the 4th (or maybe 5th it's been a while) dungeon where Link becomes invisible. It works fine on my normal Game Boys, Super Game Boy or Game Boy Player though.
