I haven't forgotten it and I don't think it's garbage. I do think 3&K is better than Mania but that doesn't mean I didn't greatly enjoy Mania.

It's great, but I wish they'd just make a new one with entirely original stages.

Ah uh niggas. Dropdash is too important now. 3&K is better with the complete version anyways for pc.

I don't think people that enjoyed Sonic mania would realize the older series are bad aswell.

I bought Sonic Mania and was enjoying it, mainly for nostalgia. I then played Sonic 1 on master system and realized what a superior game with great level design was. Sonic on SMS ruined any other Sonic game for me. I've probably posted this 10x on here but the way they adapted a "go fast" game for the SMS is nothing short of amazing. SMS Sonic is a slower more deliberate platformer, tons of little tricks to keep sprites on screen minimal yet deliver a great experience. Level design is damn good and I love the trollish nature of it.

Seriously, if you've ever liked any Sonic game and haven't given the Master System one a try, you owe it to yourself.

Take off the nostalgia goggles. Mania is better than the Mega Drive games. It might not be very original in comparison to those, but it's as good or better.

Cool.
Sonic 1 came out in 1991
Sonic 2 came out in 1992
Sonic 3&K came out in 1994
Mania came out in 2017
So it takes people over 20 years to make a game that's roughly on par with the others amazement value-wise, and it gets held back because half of the stages already existed and have been played to death in the various versions of sonic ever since 3&K.

I agree, mechanically, it's a better game. It's just not very impressive that it took over 20 years for them to make Sonic better and it was more or less a rehash of the same levels we've been playing. "With new paths."
Why not just call it "Generations 2" and get it over with?

And they couldn't even make a good game
The Sonic Sage 2018 Sonic Advance Remake demo is a lot better than Mememania

Exactly. Sonic Mania did a lot of things right and it really captured the artsyle of the original Sonics. Unfortunately, it's a game with no strong personality because it reuses a lot of old stages, so it becomes more like a "best of" tribute, and less like an original Sonic adventure.

I understand that they were probably forced to do that, but we're only judging the final product.

Also, in my opinion, the game is too fast and has too many loops, the stages are a bit too long and there's too many boss battles that slowdown the flow (I don't think medium bosses work at all in a Sonic game).
The bonus stage was very annoying too.

You are talking like the mania team worked on it for 20 years, while instead sonic team had no fucking clue for 20 years and managed to run into the ground one of the most profitable vidya series.

Now we have 2 possible scenarios.
Either the mania guys will stay away from sega and its shit business practices (remember they forced them to reuse old stages), or they will work on a sequel with more original stages.
Either way, I am glad for having a game showing the world how fucked up sonic team is.

Hmm, any ideas why a game published in 2017 wouldn't get discussed on a retro games board?

Read the rules again, it doesn't matter when a game is released as long as it can run on pre-1999 hardware.

Can you run Mania on pre-1999 hardware? Not criticizing you or anything, I'm just curious.

excepting the higher resolutions, probably most of it (if not all?) could run on a saturn.

the special stage is designed to be around that tech level
