Dreamcast Thread

What games are you playing right now?
Best Hidden Gems/Imports?
Any cool fanmade games/hacks?
Fun peripherals to try out?
Best controllers/memory units?

I've been trying out the prototype version of Propeller Arena with my friends and it's been a lot of fun, seems like it should have a modern release already.

Seventh Cross Evolution. The game is so fucking weird.

It seems so normal at the start and then it just gets wackier and wackier as the storyline comes closer the forefront. Did anyone else play this one? I only rented it, but we renewed it a couple of times just to finish it.

For the love of god DO NOT use Redump’s method. Use an SD adapter and dump the disc on your Dreamcast with jj1d0m’s program. Redump’s GDIs are fucking garbage and aren’t compatible with anything. I wish people would stop distributing that trash.

>> No.5184941

>>5184937
What aren't their GDIs compatible with? Do they not work with the GDEMU or USB-GDROM?

>> No.5184950

Is it possible to use a PAL RF lead on a NTSC-U Dreamcast? The reason I ask is because I have parts I need to test and it turns out the mainboards are all US versions (model 837-13778/02) but I'm in the UK where we use PAL. I have a TV tuner card that can receive NTSC but need to know if the RF lead will still work on it (model HKT-8830). I don't have any other AV cables right now like component before anyone asks, this is just for testing purposes.

>> No.5184954

>>5184941
They aren’t compatible with GDEMU and I think their games with more than 3 tracks won’t work with USB GD-ROM. Redump’s format adds some kind of lead in data that isn’t necessary. Their GDIs won’t work with nullDC or most PC utilities for opening/manipulating GDIs. Their set is also shit because they release hashes for games that they only have 1 dump of so if you grab a Redump set the images aren’t necessarily verified, where TOSEC won’t add anything until they have at least 2 dumps with matching ring codes.

There's someone on reddit from redump who told me that the Samsung drive they recommend catches more data than the console's drive.

Oh, must be true then. I mean really, think about that claim. Do you think a PC drive that you’ve swapped a disc out of to force it to read a disc that it normally couldn’t could provide more accurate data than dumping on a device made to read that type of disc that can be controlled directly?

Fur Fighters
This wasn't really huge or anything but it's got a few people that remember it well.
It had a lot of charm put into the levels. They were huge, featured puzzles and unique and creative designs. There were levels based on the Guggenhiem museum, space station meer, hell and a beaver damn for example.

putting nostalgia aside it's got quite a few issues. There's a lot of running back and forth to reach character changing telepoints, there are a lot of weapons but you end up using the same one/two. The gunplay doesn't involve, stealth, sniping or crouching, I think it was trying to keep the action simple to be fair. The game also features platforming but it has the standard shooter tank controls.

>> No.5185168

>>5185163
yes, 4 player split-screen.
The character switching gimmick is also in the multiplayer death matches, so it added an extra layer of strategy. some characters could obtain different collectables for example.

All right, I took a closer look at the audio track offset differences and TOSECs standard makes more sense, I think. I wouldn't have any use for GDIs until the DCIO comes out, but anyway.

Goodolddownloads only had a redump of Cool Cool Toon. Where can I find TOSEC dumps?

>> No.5185357

>>5185339
Cool Cool Toon isn’t in the TOSEC set, unfortunately. Try archive.org, I believe someone had uploaded a TOSEC set on there. TOSEC used to be more common to find but Redump memed themselves into relevancy and people bought into it.

I'm getting botched colors and vertical lines when playing this burned CDI, the menu before opening it looks fine.
My console is PAL and the disc NTSC, I'm trying to find any other game to try it with since I don't have any games lying around.

The seven or so gates you need to spin through in quick succession. You have to spin to open the locks, pop out, start spinning again, and then navigate carefully and quickly though.
It'd be one thing if it was just that as a skill challenge, but remember that using the top mode drains health unless you have the aforementioned (bonus) item the eco spinner. I'll get back to the game eventually, but that one spot really soured my play experience.

Did you patch it for 60hz?

For the patch:
>Open the CDI image in a hex-editor and search for all occurences of following byte sequence:

>A0 09 00 05 A0 01 E4 03 A0 02 E4 01 A0 03 E4
