Sometimes bullshit is just bullshit. I like hard games but Plutonia is blatantly poorly designed, there are maps that are impossible to get 100% kills in.

plutonia is more focused, consistent and technically competent BUT i think i honestly still prefer tnt just for it's charm and occasional moments of brilliance. it has both better highs and worse lows than plutonia but that's what makes it interesting to me

also tnt actually feels kind of a head of its time with the attempts at more realistic environments. seems to do a lot more with the 'hell on earth' concept than doom 2 itself lol

also tnt map13 might just be my favorite map of all the iwads. has good, varied gameplay as well as memorable, kinda gorgeous setpieces.

They're both amazing, but my vote goes to Plutonia. A few TNT levels are just too large and boring whereas Plutonia is more consistent and challenging.

However my favorite level is Caribbean.

18 to be precise

I prefer TNT as it was much more fun to just explore and experience, but Plutonia is the more hardcore Doom experience for those who at the time thought they were unbeatable.

It's just that the levels in Plutonia are dog ugly and those guys must have been paid off by the Revenant and Chaingunner lobbys because they were stuffed with them.

even at 81 it's still more than DII and TNT combined.
also lol at archvile appearing sooner than zombieman on UV/NM

Plutonia is a superbly designed mapset made by 2 people who would go on to become professional mapmakers. It has impeccable enemy placement and maps that stretch the Doom engine to its very limits. It's the apex of gaming for me and its influence on Doom mapmaking can still be seen to this day.

TNT is a butt fugly, glorified amateur mapset that has little to no cohesion between its maps. However, TNT isn't just mediocre, it's downright terrible with garbage maps like Metal and Habitat that contain massive, featureless rooms that look like someone just made a basic shape with the mapmaker of their choice and just called it a day, oh, those giant, coverless rooms also feature mass amounts of hitscan enemies.

I still hold that people who bitch about Plutonia's "unfairness" while touting TNT have never actually played through the whole WAD. I can't picture someone like that ever actually getting through a map like Mount Pain.

P.S. lol just lol at the notion that TNT has prettier maps than Plutonia, don't let your butthurt blind you. Also, TNT's best maps are also made by none other than the Casali brothers.

I like DOOM, a lot. Regarding FD, i'm not even splitted between the two episodes because they're both very good, in my opinion, so i don't get the grudge one can have regarding one or another. But the actual reason of my post is: we already have not one, but two threads for discussing this matter. What's the reason of killing a thread and ultimately divide discussions even more?
