I liked the older kirby games but then they started pumping them out with more and more and more starting around 7th gen or so, and they're totally quantity over quality.

Best game is Kirby's Adventure. Only modern ones I enjoyed were Amazing Mirror for doing metroid-style exploration-focused gameplay and canvas curse just for being a unique take on the platformer genre early in the DS's lifespan. All the other newer kirby games are fucking braindead, and I'm convinced that modern kirby fans are all literal children and/or autists judging from the types of posts I saw on /v/ clamoring for Waddle Dee in smash.

i remember finally playing super star and being pissed that the powerups didn't have multiple moves in adventure/nightmare in dreamland but when i went back to it, i realized only getting one move per power makes them feel more unique and special. everything in super star feels so needlessly overpowered

i honestly prefer nid only because you can hold up to float. weirdly specific thing i know but i constantly end up jumping off cliffs and shit in ka because i keep forgetting you have to press A in that one. holding up just feels more natural

Consistently good, Amazing Mirror might be the closest to a bad game in terms of the main series, spinoffs are weird but good.

Amazing Mirror is amazing though, I loved it to bits. It needed a little bit more polish but overall it was pretty good.
Squeak Squad/Mouse Attack was kinda meh and definitely worse, for instance.

They both start fun and never let up. All the other Kirby's feel so slow and empty.

I haven't played Amazing Mirror tho, and this thread makes me want to.

I also have very good memories of Canvas Curse but I haven't played it in many years.
