Have you ever learned a secret or a detail about a game many years after you first played it that you completely missed? I learned about the chicken that turns into a girl in Kakario much later after I beat the game.

I didn't know that depending on your suit in SMB3, kings say different things.

If you use the magic powder on the old woman in Kakariko, she just disappears completely.

Also in Link to the Past, if you drain the water south of Link's house, and throw the fish into deeper water, it thanks you, and gives you 20 rupees. If you take the fish to the bottle salesman in Kakariko, and throw it at him, he says eating fish makes you smart, and gives you a bunch of different items, including rupees, arrows, bombs, and a magic jar.

Didn't learn about the 6-button configuration on Shinobi 3 until just a few years back. It's one if my favorite genesis games that I've owned since childhood.

Many battles in Shining Force 2 have a generic enemy the boss flag, and killing them will end the battle.

>boot up Crono Trigger for old times sake
>play up to point where Crono get imprisoned after the trial
>leave the room for a while leaving the game on
>come back later to see a scene where Crono is actually taken to be executed and then saved by Lucca
I have played through CT a dozens of times over the years but I have never seen or heard about this scene.

IIRC getting that scene gives you access to an additional item you can pick up in the execution room.

I think it just makes things a bit easier for you by letting you play through the prison as Chrono AND Lucca instead of Chrono solo.

This. Usually won with leaf or just regular.

The hidden UFO on the first level of Kirby's Adventure. I never noticed that slight difference in that area, only found out because I read about it a few years ago.

Generating Double and Triple shot power-ups in the Castlevania games. I never knew you could force the game to give them to you, I thought you could only pick them up from knowing which blocks to break. Then again, I didn't play a ton of Castlevania growing up either.

Level 1 UFO and the alternate miniboss rush tower were things I had no idea about as a kid or even as an adult. Didn't find out about them until a few years ago.

I was such an overachiever with this. I always had to know what each king said to each suit, and beat the end in each of the suits as well.

Didn't know you could bring up a map in Ecco the Dolphin if you held the sonar button. I didn't play the game very much a the time, though.
Sliding making you immune in Contra: Hard Corps.
The whole Auto shop brought up by pressing Select in the level selection of Megaman 7.
Finding out there are two and not one story route in Front Mission 3 like 5 or 6 years when i picked it up. I never looked up guides on the net, and when I made a different choice at the start I was blown away, thinking I was playing another game.
I'm a brainlet.

I found out about those when I was playing the game with my little brother, showing off and showing him all of the flute locations. Didn't know what to tell him, honestly.

I didn't know there was a hidden passage that bypasses this jump for a long time. To this day I haven't seen a video of someone else doing it.

There's something I've been curious about in Dragon Quest 3, Baramos has two different things he can say before the boss fight with him:
https://youtu.be/rvghvAbj6tA?t=22
https://youtu.be/hDxmhK6Bgso?t=4

I have no clue what triggers the dialogue in the second video. It's pretty minor, but it bugs me and I can't find any info about it.

Bonus room within a bonus room in DKC1.

Citan can sell a part from Fei’s bomb collar to Hammer in Xenogears instead of just failing to tinker meaningfully with it (many random outcomes, some only slightly different).

If Mario is dead during the Jonathan Jones fight when the duel is supposed to begin, I’ve heard he will duel Bowser or conceivably someone else, but I’ve never tested this (rarely have even optioned into the duel period).

Arguably pretty minor, but I discovered optional side areas in RE2 with nothing in them.

Basically, you play either scenario B up until the sewer, then run across that little hallway and take the other character's lift. You can backtrack all the way to the police station, but there's no items or enemies to be encountered.

I also still find ammo locations in that game I never knew about.

In Parasite Eve, there's a note you can read in a jail cell, but only if you hold down Select when inspecting it. This is the only time you ever have to do this to inspect something in the entire game.

I've been compiling a list of all the nifty things I've found over the years in Ocarina of Time, pic related. Some of it will seem obvious to anyone that's played the game, but there's a lot of stuff most people have no clue about. OoT still has the most secrets and hidden features of any Zelda game to this day.

Thanks. There's probably 3x that many secrets, but that's all I've remembered to write down. Really amazing how much they were able to pack into the game, especially when you consider that this list doesn't even include all of the main secrets like hidden grottos, heart pieces, skulltula locations, etc. What a great game.

In Resident Evil 2, I always thought the Brad Vickers zombie showed up only in the A scenario, so you could only have either Leon or Claire wearing the extra costume per playthrough. I found out last year that this fucker also shows up on B scenario.

Nah, he has a third set of dialogue for that.

I love the Heroless ending Dude just pops in and takes all the credit without doing anything, it's hilarious.
