Nah, wherever you look, all Japanese sources directly give the name as a translation of 弾丸, i.e. bullet.

And it's not the first or last time they did that.
FF6 has a thief called lock. FF7 has Cloud, cloud. FF8 has Squall, squall. FF10 has tons of these things. Tiidus is tiidus = Sun in Okinawan, Yuuna is yuuna = night in Okinawan, Wakka is just wakka = water in Ainu. Sin is straight up sin from English.

None of these are names in any of the languages mentioned, they're words picked to represent the characters.

You're forgetting Doom of the Living, which gets similar damage to the other two's limit breaks. Also, Yuffie gets the Conformer, which allows her to Morph at full damage if the enemy is above lvl 16. Her ultimate weapon is by far the best in the game. Doom of the Living charges faster than Cid's Highwind. She's beyond "mediocre". She's long range. She is better than Cid.
