What's /vr/'s take on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis? And how well does it fare against its predecessors?

I love Resident Evil 3 and will say it's my favorite of the PSX trilogy. Yes, I like it more than Resident Evil 2 and Director's Cut, fight me.
I can see why people dislike it, though, since it's a little more action oriented than its predecessors, but that's what makes it great in my opinion. It hits a good balance between the exploration and puzzle solving of the first two and adds more tension and action with the Nemesis chase sequences, and I like that you are rewarded if you actually take out Nemesis in certain sections.

As a bonus. it features the M1887, my favorite shotgun in all vidya and Jill even cocks it like the Terminator

>> No.5175243

It is the weakest of the good REs, those being 1 2 3 and CV. The 180 and dodge mechanic additions were very good, though the dodge is so hard to pull off it might as well not be there. I understand making that too easy to execute could trivialize the combat, but they went overboard.

Re3 place is the canon is muddy, and the downtown fetch quest took up half of the game.

>> No.5175329

IMO, the gameplay machanics are better than 2's with the 180 turn, dodging, and being able to actually walk up stairs instead of having to press action to that. My only gripe is Nemesis not randomly spawning anywhere to keep the tension up since all his spawns are scripted.

It is really rushed, with a weak story, and setting. And the gameplay is too action-y. Capcom was rushing out too many RE sequels at this time. That being said, it's a decent enough game. Weaker than RE2 whcih is the best balance of exploration

Also, it really lacks character scenarios. You should have been able to pick either Carlos or Jill at the start. Having one continuous mission with switching over is likely to reduce dev time.

Re2 is the best polished version of the RE formula. RE was the first, and has a lot of originality. RE3 is the weakest of the PS games, but still pretty solid.

>The 180 and dodge mechanic additions were very good,

180 is essential, and should have been added to 1-2. But dodging is kinda lame. It turns your character into some kind of super ninja. And giving the Dodge button also the aim button makes you dodge randomly instead of it being skill based.

RE3 used to be my favorite in the series. I say it stacks up well. It's better than most people give it credit for. I'm really happy Capcom decided to go ahead with more remakes after preorders for RE2 Remake did so well. The Nemesis encounters were better and scarier than the Mr. X parts of RE2, and was always more threatening.

>>5175103
Absolute shit opinion tbqh, but they weren't bad in concept. RE Outbreak 1 and 2 suffered from poor execution. No chat options whatsoever except for the terrible, TERRIBLE pre-written messages. No voice support, no option to even chat using a keyboard. Especially for a game designed around puzzle-solving, streamlining inventories and being in charge of individual tasks. Griefing was ubiquitous, you could collect a key item and then leave the game and it would be lost forever, requiring everyone else to quit and find another server.

Fuck I'm still pissed at how badly Capcom fucked up the Outbreak games. I hope they make another RE Co-op game similar to Outbreak and scrap any plans of having another shooty-shooty COD rip-off.

I know I repeat myself in every RE thread I post in, but I'll never understand what people liked so much about RE2.

The story I just find silly for the most part, and the underground complex and g-virus shit is way to grand and over the top.

And it is sooo fucking easy.
I hadn't played it since my first playthrough in 98 or 99 when I was a kid when I bought it a couple years ago.
I didn't die fucking once on either of the carracters.
And Mr Generic, or "Mr X" is probably the lamest boss in the trilogy.

This game however, is one I'm actually a bit interested in the remake. I hope they tone down the g-virus stuff and make a hard mode where you actually have to conserve ammo and healing supplies.
And please leave out the Wesker bullshit I know they're gonna shit in there somehow.

Personally i love the simple story of RE3, just escape alive. It's easily my favorite in the series, one of my favorite PS1 games actually.

Nemesis is such a great fucking boss, and the different trigger points and changes to the story they make, gives it very good replay value I think.
Especially on hard where there is way less ammo and health supplies.
On easy I agree it feels much more like a "actiony" game starting with the M-16 with 300 rounds in the fucking mag.

I think it has great atmosphere, music and good varity of puzzles and scenery/sections like the city, park, clocktower and factory.

I agree it feels a little rushed in some places, the carlos dialog in particular. Way less than RE2 in any case.
And yes whould be cool if you could pick carracters to start, with different parts of the city for each.

I also always hated the grave digger monster worm, just silly like much of the RE2 stuff.

I definitely recommend giving it a replay on hard if you haven't tho.

>>5175445
>But dodging is kinda lame
100% agree, the hard mode should never have it atleast. I never learned how to do it on purpose, but I hate it.

He doesn't spawn randomly, but there are quite a few different Nemesis scenarios depending on where you go first/puzzle you solve first in the city and clocktower.

Also I think there is 4 different scenarios through the game you can get with the dialogs when running into the umbrella mercs.

I'm not sure there's been much talk on it since Capcom's announcement. To be honest I wish they would make a new mainline entry and expand the story established in RE7 after RE2 remake. I'm more excited for a new story over retreding the same ground. I would still love to see all of the earlier RE games eventually get remasters though.

>> No.5175627

It's an action game.

>> No.5175653

RE3 is simply the best Resident Evil. The one with the most replay value and the highest skill ceiling. It's a fantastic survival horror, and behind that, a great action game.

People who say it's a "cheap" sequel are the kinds of people who play a game maybe once and only look at the surface. They say it's like "RE2.5", but in reality 3 is more unique than 2, while 2 is but a cheap copy pasting of everything RE1 did while managing to fuck up the scenario system in the process.

>>5175627
all survival horror are action games. it's part of their definition. action-adventure with a horror theme. With no action they'd be adventure-horror games like Uninvented on NES.

>> No.5175662

>> No.5175928

I think the original trilogy are all as good as eachother, but for different reasons.

RE1 is unforgiving the first playthrough and requires the most caution out of the trilogy. It features the best environment/scenario, and is a very satisfying experience.

RE2 feels bigger than the first game, but is over pretty fast. Its a cakewalk compared to the first game, and less satisying to beat as well.

RE3 is the easiest of the trilogy. Ammo is ridiculously plentiful. If you decide to fight nemesis (non-glitch mode) each time, it becomes the hardest of the trilogy. But only because Resi's tank controls are not designed for dynamic combat. Fighting Nemy is more often than not dependent on how many freeze rounds/herbs you have, over dodging skills. The new dodge mechanic as well is shit. Its still a great game, but ammo is far too plentiful, and the environments are too plentiful. Its nice to see more of raccoon city, but it seems like your taking a tour guide through the city, and most new environments are flown by pretty quickly. (Especially when compared to the mansion of RE1).

RE surivivor is a joke, but worth playing.

RE CV is pretty bad imo.

REmake is godly

DC1/DC2 are on par with RE1,2 and 3.

Have you maybe tried thinking for a second how the game is designed?

if you're getting a dodge that you did not intended, it means that, if this was RE1/2, you wouldn't have had time to draw your gun and have gotten hit. You wouldn't have shot anyway.
RE3 gives you a chance, and then, you can try to master the dodge system to perform some sick stuff.

Man, all I wanted Code Veronica to be was a side story to the original trilogy.
The gameplay was pretty fucking good, music and atmosphere spot on.

What I didn't want was Wesker runing on walls and doing matrix moves, as he fucking died in RE1. Yeah, fuck the remake.
Or a bitch throwing her blood around and magically lighting it on fire.
Or ANYTHING of all the bullshit they threw in there.

Just cutting all the dialog in that game whould make it 50% better.
